"The positive vibes around St Kilda’s bumper trade period have taken a hit, with Dan Hannebery breaking his foot after stumbling down some stairs.
Sam Edmund, Herald Sun

Dan Hannebery has broken his foot and faces another delayed start to St Kilda’s pre-season.

The Herald Sun can reveal Hannebery’s latest setback came when he stumbled on some outdoor steps at his sister’s house in Perth.

The midfielder fractured a metatarsal bone in his right foot in the midmorning accident, which occurred at the start of the week.

Hannebery, 28, will have surgery on Monday to have a pin inserted before he embarks on a six-week rehabilitation program.

The Saints are satisfied Hannebery’s latest setback is purely accidental. Club officials have confirmed Hannebery was walking up a handful of steps carrying his hat, sunglasses and other possessions when he briefly lost his footing.

The club is confident the star midfielder will start his pre-season only a fortnight behind teammates, who resume duties at Moorabbin on November 18.

While considered far from a disaster, Hannebery is understood to be frustrated by the setback given the Saints were riding a wave of positive publicity after a bumper trade period.

It also presents another pre-season headache for the three-time All Australian, whose high-profile move from Sydney this time last year was plagued by soft tissue problems.

Hannebery didn’t make his Saints debut until Round 14 and missed another five weeks a fortnight later as the club came under fire for its decision to recruit him on a five-year deal.

Yet Hannebery showed real signs of life in the last three weeks of the season and St Kilda officials are confident this is more of a hiccup than a significant setback.

Meanwhile, St Kilda today moved to create space for its five-man trade haul with a trio of delistings.

Bailey Rice, Brandon White and Robbie Young were all told their time was up.

Senior threesome Josh Bruce, Jack Steven and Blake Acres were traded on Wednesday."

I’m sure we’ll here the usual “he was just running around playing with his dog” excuse soon!

I thought he was the worst deal SINCE Lovett
I was WRONG
At least the Lovett debacle reached it's ultimate conclusion in under 6 months!
This will continue for a while yet before he gets his payout!

How many games will he play next year?

That trade period that saw us get Hannebery and Kent is going to be a costly one

What's the bet that there was alcohol involved in this little accident?

This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

I hope so, I would lose respect for the guy if a set of steps was even involved.

Nah, he probably slipped on some “flour” that his sister spilt on the ground when she trying to bake a cake.

This happens all the time. Haven’t we all just slipped over and broken a foot??

Oh it happened to a friend of mine just last week.

Seriously though he's just taking the p*** at this stage and it's frustrating.

God this site has been taken over by a bunch of f***wit flogs.
A simple accident at his sisters house has turned into he was drunk, high or both and he will probably die before playing again.
Time to piss on this site and walk away

He might be out until mid December, but I’m confident we’ll still be undefeated throughout that period.

Yes only a f***wit flog would be slightly suspicious of a professional athlete, completely sober, encountering a small flight of steps and ending up with a broken bone. That's totally normal. It's all totally normal.

And none of us pointed that out at the time

I struggle to see how Kent would get a game this year as a small forward behind Billings, Gresham, Lonie, Parker, Butler & Hind. He doesn't have the running capacity to go though the middle or play high half forward.
He's fast in a straight line only with poor lateral movement. Bring him out twice when we play Melbourne, he certainly played a cracker against them.

This may be just a small isolated incident with Hannebery, a storm in a tea cup maybe.
I prefer to look in patterns and anyone who cannot see a pattern with Hannebery and fitness and his ability to get himself on the park is burying their head in the sand.

Minor issue.

I don't like looking at patterns, just see the same thing every time. Better to bury my head in the sand.

It’s remarkable how bad luck coincides with questionable professionalism

As for Kent... I just laugh at how a few ppl billed him as the outside mid we were waiting for.
Should have offered them some magic beans
