Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Hope recruiting Ryder is worth it. Time will tell.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Don’t think Ryder will cost much. Have a feeling Port will try and do the right thing by him and get him to where he wants without playing hardball.

I agree. Could learn from the Marshall story and try to find another rookie with potential instead of someone in the twilight of his career and with limited upside. Our recruitment and development is the reason why our list has been making up the numbers for almost 10 years now instead of being a genuine challenger.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Hill, Jones, Ryder...keep 'em coming Gubby. Keath would be nice too.
Ryder will be an adequate backup for Marshall. Plus teach him a few things or two along the way as a previous AA ruck should and give him a timeout when required. Pretty standard move to cover a position for 2-3 years IMO. We will get another ruck for depth also so people need to stop the whinging.
The Saints are getting a real indiginous feel about part of our playing list. Like.

Stupidity!
Ryder makes Hannebery look like a rock solid great trade.
Absolutely ridiculous.
Fat, immobile has been.
And we thought Hannebery was broken down & past his best, wait until we see the guy that used to be Paddy Ryder.

What’s this magical rookie going to teach Marshall?

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
I don’t think a player playing SANFL recently will command a good pick.
AA experience on the cheap. I imagine we’ll be effectively paying him to coach and play back up ruck.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Maybe we could lure WOW Jones out if retirement or Lazar to be Marshall’s back up?

Pretty much so the mad hysteria from some fans (usual suspects) around his recruitment is really mind boggling.

Who taught Marshall to be the 'beauty' he's already become? There is such a thing as off-field coaches too. It is another dumb recruitment by the club.Spinner wrote: ↑Sat 21 Sep 2019 10:45pmsaintkid wrote: ↑Sat 21 Sep 2019 10:17pmI agree. Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Young Ladhams and others have moved past Ryder at Port Adelaide - So Ryder is surplus to their requirements
We obtained Austin from Port Adelaide because opportunities to play AFL were on offer at St
Kilda
Austin was highly rated by Port Adelaide but they believed his lack of bulk meant others on their List were ahead of Austin at the selection table
So instead of playing and developing him in the SANFL they agreed his request for a transfer to St Kilda
Mind you he is not the only one on our List who has come to us looking for game time in the AFL

So no rookie in mind?
Remember this rookie would have to play seniors if Marshall were to get injured.

The other young guy I wouldn’t mind perusing is Chol At Richmond.
You might ask what we have to trade but lack of picks isn’t stopping us chasing Crouch & Jones according to media reports.
My biggest issue with Fat, old, immobile, has been Ryder is the feeling they’ll let Bruce go if they secure him.

They have ruck coaches to teach Marshall.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
Yep. Fact is is that we need to recruite 2 rucks than can come in and play. Ryder is a perfect backup that can also play a few games to give Marshall a break. Smart recruiting and pretty ops normal.

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
But isn't bringing in an experienced ruckman purely designed at helping the development of Marshall and King?
I thought that was the whole point of it?

Re: CH7 reporting that Ryder will join StKilda
I'd like to think we will still grab two more rucks.
A ruck around 25 years old & a kid, someone like that Bryan who played yesterday for Oakleigh.
There were some good kids running around yesterday besides Rowell (a freak) and Anderson.
I liked Bianco (Oakleigh) and Clarke (Eastern). I also liked the way an Oakleigh key forward moved, Ugle (something)???
