Re: Carlisle on trade table
Sam McClure reporting.
Can’t say I agree with this, probably been our most talented player over 2017 and 2018.
Obviously been told in an exit interview. Doubt the club would leak it, affects our leverage.

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Good.
I know he's had back surgery, but I think he drinks his own bathwater and believes he is The Rock of the backline.
We need guys who want to put in a big effort every game, not just 3 games out of 10.
Letting SInclair try to mark, staying out of it, resulting in a Swans goal, is unacceptable.

A real Sainter will pledge allegiance to the ❤ and despise the Pies, the Blues, and the Injectors.

Re: Carlisle on trade table
I cut him some slack because of his injury.
With Brown approaching retirement we have no other gorillas in the backline and they're hard to get.
Why throw him away? And keep a whole platoon of battlers?
It's like trading away McEvoy, Stanley and Hickey.

Re: Carlisle on trade table
We'd want to get another tall in. Are we seriously considering going into next year with Logan Austin or Darragh Joyce in a key defensive post? Where would Carlisle go?

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Our dearth of tall defensive options sees Brown still playing, Battle pushed to defence and the recruitment of Rowe from East Doncaster in the EFL
Past that we have the developing Austin and Claravino - both impacted by injury during 2019 and not appearing at AFL level
Then there is Joyce who appeared in a couple of games
So we are hardly well placed
Therefore this reporting concerns me because it is the wrong direction - even allowing for recruitment because will ability be like for like?
Perhaps they are reporting off this site and the attacks on every player absent Geary and Longer
Perhaps we should re-sign Rowe for 2020
With Rowe and Geary leading our defence no doubt we will be right in premiership contention in 2020, given someone actually wants to take the responsibility of Senior Coach
Brown at full back
Rowe at CHB
Geary on a back flank
Webster and McKenzie also plying their skills in our back 6
What a future!

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Just thought of the solution
We go hard to get Goddard back, offering up Clark and Coffield to get the deal done

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Jack Steven
Was easily our most talented player 2017-2018
A fourth B&F and 8th in the Brownlow
He got actual results. If Carlisle was our most talented player, he’d have done better.
I agree, in those years as a spare defender, he was a good intercept mark. Those days are gone, and he actually has to play on someone... and a an actual defender, he is terrible.
Our second most overrated player

Re: Carlisle on trade table
So Ratts, hopefully our next coach makes a statement about skilled players...and before he’s officially appointed we put one of our better ball users on the trade table.

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Good ball users?
He marks uncontested in the d50
Turns sideways and kicks 20m toward the boundary... and he f***ed that twice kicking off one step, because he’s lazy.

200cm defenders are incredibly hard to find. There are so many giant forwards theses days.

Re: Carlisle on trade table
I find this both annoying and stupid.
So Jake will play for the Saints in 2020 if no other club wants him.
Are you serious? We either want him or we don’t. If we don’t then move him on.
Ok. What if no one wants him and we end up keeping him. Is he going to give us his best knowing the Saints were happy to let him go?
Just ridiculous

Re: Carlisle on trade table
If Carlisle remains at St Kilda next year he should become 2nd ruckman to support Rowan Marshall, instead of key back. He starred at Essendon as a key forward and then demanded a switch to defence. His form this year is such that he is no longer in a position to demand where he plays, so the club should say to him: "if you want to stay at the Saints then we will play you where we believe you are best suited and resolve a major deficiency, which is in the ruck department, if that doesn't suit then we'll trade you out".
If his back problems are such that he is incapable of ruckwork then there is no point in him staying, he has been quite disappointing since returning from injury and it is quite possible that he is far from fully fit. In his defence, if he does manage to have a strong pre-season next year, he could well be the answer to the Saints ruck problems - Marshall's great form notwithstanding...

Re: Carlisle on trade table
His strength was his mobility.
That's left him this year. For obvious reasons.
Will it come back? Who knows?

Re: Carlisle on trade table
According to Matthew Lloyd he is worth a late 3rd round pick. We paid more for Logan Austin.
Trading him and Steven out to free up more salary cap space. Why do we need to trade anybody out to free up cap space?
Who the hell is getting paid?

Re: Carlisle on trade table
I don’t like it... he has actual talent even if he struggled this year.
People are confusing potential with actual talent. You don’t trade out actual talent just for potential... we’ve got plenty of potential players
Bad strategy

Re: Carlisle on trade table
Ducks and drakes I think. Carlisle obviously wants to extend and the Club wants to leverage.
Like we have an abundance of quality key defenders. We'll keep him and do a deal. Forget his games this year, although he probably won us a few. He's a calm, cool and collected gun.
