Re: Carlisle
Hopefully Carlisle has a good Pre-Season and plays to his potential in 2020, otherwise, trade him at the end of 2020.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Carlisle
Plays like a guy who doesnt give af about the club. Least when Goddard went to the Injectors expecting a flag and was let down, he doubled down and tried.
Carlisle playing like moving to us was the mistake it was.

Can’t compare a competitive person like Goddard to a lazy person like Carlisle.

Re: Carlisle
You could make the mistake of thinking, have a lot of these guys got no pride? let alone professionalism. You can see why Ross was dumbfounded Carslise played so well in the last quarter against Freo - where did that come from.

Re: Carlisle
If he has any trade value, we should trade him now. Terrible attitude and I'm sick of it. Yeh, he has some ability, but with this attitude and work ethic, we're going nowhere.

Re: Carlisle
Clearly Carlisle came back from injury just to trigger his contract clause - he hasn't been right in any of the games this year.
Rowe looked more agile with better effort today, that's saying something.

Re: Carlisle
Not sure
But with Wilkie and Battle back there - he is not noticed as much when he is not there as he was lat year.
Brown, Wilkie, Battle, et al makes decent reading.
It is the et al that we need to sort - Carlisle needs to be in the mix - but I do not think it is guaranteed as Carlisle, Wilkie, Brown, Battle anymore.

Re: Carlisle
Extremely concerned with Carlisle. Not sure if it's effort or something completely different, possibly between the ears.
He needs a monster pre-season if he wants to get back to his best.
At his best, he's a fantastic mark and a great defensive spoil.
At his worst, he's physically weak, slow, poor at positioning his body and reading the play. And the ill-discipline, half-arsed efforts make it worse.
Jake, mate - I know it's hard, but please knuckle down next season. This place will get behind you in a heartbeat if you promise to give it your all.

Re: Carlisle
How many players have good years when they don't have a pre-season?
Very, very few.
How many come back for the last month or two after no pre-season and coming off back surgery - and are at their best?
Even less.

Re: Carlisle
I've always loved Jake Carlisle but can understand why his last 3 weeks especially has the masses gunning for him. He seems to have switched off and his performance today was deplorable. It may be that his back is not quite right yet but I tend to think it's between the ears.......I don't want to be too quick to trade him out because his best is sensational but we need a psychologist to get him sorted before preseason starts......if the fire in the belly is no longer there, then it is time to go obviously.

But he's a really good footballer.
Physically though, he's battling. He's slow and has no power. He can only kick 30m too.
I would assume that it's obviously due to his lack of preparation and surgery.

Between his ears yes
People forget the fu he showed to us at the start of his career at the Saints
So If his attitude is not right he should not be playing
if his body is not right he should not be playing
If his love for footy is waning then he should be on the trade list

Yeah but he loves earning big bucks and he had to 'turn up' for roll call otherwise he wouldn't have triggered his contract clausesunsaint wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:11pm Between his ears yes

Just a quick question for anyone who might know the answer; Why the f*** was match committee obligated to help him with his contract clause?

Re: Carlisle
Anyone care to detail his preparation for the 2019 season?
As someone noted it is a most difficult ask to endure an impeded pre-season then returning in the second half of the season
I note that the other player side lined by back surgery has not appeared in 2019
So what is the commentary on Bytel
Waste of a Draft Pick no doubt
And King - who also has not appeared at AFL level in 2019
So another dud?
No doubt there are some players on our List who are struggling with condition but are soldering on - that is a factor in any sport
I would not be surprised to learn that the problem which impeded Acres 2018 has also impeded him this season - hence his usage

Re: Carlisle
But it's not about whether he is best 22 or not. Other things need to be taken into consideration. I would have thought that you'd manage a player who had surgery early in the year and is coming off an interrupted preseason. Undoubtedly at his best and when he's fit and agile he's a matchwinner.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:20pmHe's clearly in the best 22.Josh Battle wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:17pmYeah but he loves earning big bucks and he had to 'turn up' for roll call otherwise he wouldn't have triggered his contract clausesunsaint wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:11pm Between his ears yes

I'm sick of seeing just our young blokes being the scapegoats. I would have thought that it's important to make a statement and drop a senior player or two when you have poor team performances or poor individual efforts.
There is no point just tinkering at the edges. We need to either turn over 3/4 of this list or just hurt these blokes in their hip pocket from time to time

Re: Carlisle
Clearly not fit. Could not run, could not kick to save himself.
Was very good a couple of weeks back.
If fit, a genuine star.

Re: Carlisle
He’s been full training for 12 weeks, and playing for 8
He’s not 100% but not as if it’s his first game back
All we are doing is making excuses for him, because we want him to be a good player
He’s massively overrated, always has been
He was good when he played as a plus one, but as an actual defender, he’s average

Re: Carlisle
I don’t think Carlisle has been 100% since coming back, but by golly, he was bloody ordinary today. He looked really disinterested. Whoever is appointed coach needs to bust his balls over the off-season and whip into shape.

Training in R15 doesn't build fitness. Training in R15 maintains what you built in the pre-season, and is generally designed to get you through the season.
You should know that. Being a genuis super coach and all.
Secondly, what does 'massively overrated' mean?
And how is that relevant?
