Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
This comes from nothing more than a gut feel. But there’s something fishy going on with Jimmy.
I saw a couple of people mention he wasn’t happy to play after he hurt his hand but he did and did further damage.
Since then he had a “fitness test”, then the back issue, then tonsillitis, now illness, with a couple of average VFL games in between.
I really hope he hasn’t thrown in the towel - he’s got a long term contract but that means less and less in footy these days.

Not on my List of “must retain”
Clark, Coffield, Wilkie, Battle and hopefully Roberton put the squeeze on Webster - and he will know that
So a depth player from here - and where we have options

Not my cuppa tea.
The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

He’s a much better player than Coffield atm
Savage and Geary are walk up starts in back 6

Re: Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
Savage and Webster being walk ups are why we suck.
We need to find a guy who cracks in as hard as Webster, but can kick.
We need to find a bloke that is harder in the contest than Savage, and can use it just as well.
Until we replace those two, we'll suck.
Geary I agree is a walk up. The dude is a mad man.

Replacing Webster or Savage with say, Haines from GWS would imlrove us by 3-4 per week I reckon.
They both totally deserve their spots and have done themselves proud. But we need a big improvement in that role coming off half back.

Re: Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
This is the Geary that opposition sides allow unchecked in a back pocket after they miss a shot on goal - knowing his disposal limitations will see us immediately under pressure
Webster is not up to the required standards across the board
And Savage lacks the necessary hard edge and is inconsistent as we saw coming off his performance v Fremantle to his performance v Carlton
Did anyone notice Coffield’s 20 minutes v Fremantle - BOG until injured
Give he and Clark a further pre-season and have a look

Jimmy Webster is a good footballer. How anyone can think otherwise is beyond me.

And we had a coach who fell for it and played through him.
Early this year when Cho woke up to it, Geary was legit.

Re: Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
Webster is one of the few players we have that could be surplus to requirement but may have some trade value.
A 3rd rounder or if we could get a 3rd rounder for Newnes as a FA, that 3rd rounder could be bundled with Webster for a 2nd rounder.
I guess we’ll get nothing for Newnes as a FA if we can pick up a FA of our own.

Bit hard on poor JWeb when he was in and out of the side for years (due to poor player development and not his fault) and then poor bloke gets a broken hand and misses most of the season.
Your friendly neighbourhood samurai.

Overrated outside St Kilda. Other clubs really like him. Would be happy to trade.

The problem is the team needs Very Good Footballers.

He can't kick.
How many guys that can't kick do we continually hail as being good footballers at Moorabbin?

Re: Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
Alas, way too many. He does have one good kick - long and down the line. But, he has zero right side, and has very poor judgement on short kicks - constantly misjudging the closeness of opponents to the person he is trying to kick to - often over their head. Also, for someone of his height, he has zero ability to take a contested mark - it's always a punch - to the boundary side at best.BarryGrogan wrote: ↑Sat 24 Aug 2019 10:58pm

I answer to the original question, NO!
I am pleased the Club saw fit not to rush him back for no worthwhile reason. Love to get an trouble free season out of him.

If ratts ends up coach and geary wasn’t captain Rice would be a walk up in comparison to geary. Kicking is his strength above his toughness.groupie1 wrote: ↑Mon 26 Aug 2019 7:18amGears also can't kickBarryGrogan wrote: ↑Fri 23 Aug 2019 7:39pmSavage and Webster being walk ups are why we suck.

Re: Jimmy Webster - Anyone Else Concerned???
Webster is one of those players who can break out of the backline and kick a beautiful long kick...straight to the opposition, just like Newnes and Acres. I think he is a good backman, but no champion.
