My solution for women umpiring at AFL Level
Instead of the current tokenism approach that has beyond failed with our friend number 34, the AFL need a totally different approach to attracting women umpires at the top level.
My solution is to get top ex-AFLW players to start umpiring.
These women are already highly respected in footy circles and have a real feel for the game being ex players.
This strategy is still a few years away from happening

Just to be clear... for the men, should only ex-AFL players umpire or is this strictly for women

Maybe - men’s umpiring is slightly better. Or are you having a go at me?? Are you another of these clowns like on the ABC that advertised Men’s Ashes??
Back on topic - What do you think of my proposal?

Re: My solution for women umpiring at AFL Level
I sometimes wonder, especially at grass roots and junior level, what draws a young person to it? I coached at junior level and still have the scars But seriously, most of the young kids umpiring wouldn't have had much, if any experience playing.
Women umpiring at any level will improve greatly with playing experience and time. Maybe we should be looking harder at getting more ex-footballers as umpires? Though our experience with Mr Fisher hasn't always been friendly

Merely a question - struggling to see why this proposal is suitable for women but maybe not men. End of the day, it's a talent thing. You're either good enough or you're not. This umpire should be canned if they are terrible and the next person promoted if they're good enough

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Interesting. Did he ever play the game himself?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 12 Aug 2019 11:10am https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.telegr ... ayers/amp/
The irony. If only the door swung both ways.
I played a few seasons of mixed netball- not sure if they have men’s only teams though?

I've seen some bloody good umpires out in the burbs that wouldn't get a game at AFL due to fitness alone, that's the pity reallyskeptic wrote: ↑Mon 12 Aug 2019 11:07amMerely a question - struggling to see why this proposal is suitable for women but maybe not men. Don't think so but this bloke obviously got treated a lot worse by female professional players and coaches than Elani ever has in the AFL.Special wrote: ↑Mon 12 Aug 2019 11:20amInteresting. Calling The Ashes “Men’s Ashes” was clearly an idea by some barely-adult raw-food vegan hipster that just landed their first job at the ABC. Won’t be a good career move.

Re: My solution for women umpiring at AFL Level
In my humble opinion, "gender" has sweet FA to do with whether an umpire is up to the job. Chelsea Roffey has proved to be an excellent goal umpire. Sadly, this female umpire (Eleni Glouftsis) had a "stinker" last time she officiated at one of our games, and yesterday, was hardly better. I think, in the interests of both her, and the game, she needs to go to the VFL or similar in order to get a wee bit more experience. In all honesty, the female umpire was not alone in being truly awful yesterday. I thought the THREE of them were KRUD!!!

The solution to ‘fixing’ women umpires has nothing to do with the women, more with the blokes watching

Dud, you are easily the biggest umpire apologist I have ever come across in my entire life. That is saying something.

Does saying that umpires aren’t part of some grand conspiracy against the St Kilda FC make me an apologist?tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 12 Aug 2019 12:45pm Dud, you are easily the biggest umpire apologist I have ever come across in my entire life. That is saying something.

I think that should've read "barely-adult raw-food vegan hipster WHO WEARS HESSIAN UNDER TROUSERS". On the contrary - the aforementioned hipster will now likely get a significant promotion as a result of their brain fart into the programming department's suggestion box.Special wrote: ↑Mon 12 Aug 2019 11:30amCalling The Ashes “Men’s Ashes” was clearly an idea by some barely-adult raw-food vegan hipster that just landed their first job at the ABC. This umpiring discussion is fascinating
Yes the umps hate us and have a conspiracy against us... but women umpires... that's satan talk
I still can't understand if they're incompetent or corrupt... can't be both

We won the game and the free kit count yesterday, so maybe they’re incompetent at being corrupt?

Re: My solution for women umpiring at AFL Level
Here is an idea , let's get people regardless of gender, colour , race etc who can do the bloody job well.
She has been dropped 4 times this year and after yesterday is heading for number 5.
reality is she is a bad umpire and the best representation of equality is sending her back the vfl /sanfl for the rest of the year.
