Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Super article Saynta. Its great to get some good inside info on the club. Pretty sure I read somewhere that the Saints are doing some behind the scenes articles with perhaps afl.com.au over the coming weeks.
Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Probably at the bottom of the article, where it is written in bold text...but I predict another scoop!tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Sun 27 Jan 2019 5:17pm Super article Saynta. Afl.com.au it is then.
Fantastic, can't wait to read these articles, especially the Dan Hannerbrey one.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Thanks for posting saynta… pretty damning stuff.
the take home
Change to the playing list. Change to the game plan. Change to players' mentality.
Richo is starting from scratch in his 6th season, if he makes it through the year it will be a miracle.

Seems a good reaction to a poor season, and agree Richo will do well to survive beyond the season.
However:
Change to the playing list - 18 clubs
Change to the game plan - new rules, new players, different dynamic - 18 clubs.
Change to players' mentality - majority of clubs
Yep, starting from scratch.

This caught my eye in the article:
“with Sexton to call the shots from the boundary”.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Personally, I'm glad Alan and the playing group identified what they were doing wrong and are moving heaven and earth to fix the issues. Very positive.takeaway wrote: ↑Sun 27 Jan 2019 6:49pmSeems a good reaction to a poor season, and agree Richo will do well to survive beyond the season.

Adapting to change on many levels and using a holistic approach for the same is whats required here and its what they're doing. Kudos. Many a civilisation across the eons has fallen to its knees because it never understood what it was doing wrong and/or they were over hubris to admit it.

The biggest reaction that was needed was clearly impeded contractually, but I am sure will be remedied as soon as legally and financially possible.takeaway wrote: ↑Sun 27 Jan 2019 6:49pmSeems a good reaction to a poor season, and agree Richo will do well to survive beyond the season.

When the board extended Alan to 7 years, I'm pretty confident they weren't expecting that 12 months later we'd need a drastic new approach to list management, we'd clean out the entire footy department, looking for a new game plan and the realization that the coaches ability to inspire the players was in disarray.
We're dancing around a contractual bungle and pumping money into overseas leadership training for a bloke who won't even be in the building in 12 months time. Taking an injured tall with pick 4 was Lethlean popping the last nail in his coaching coffin IMO.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
If anything it signaled a partial rebuild without uttering the 'R' word to me, and doesn't place a lot of faith in Paddy coming 'round. I'm glad we have Max, don't get me wrong, but I'd have preferred to see the club back itself in a little and go for a gun mid. Sadly, Rankine was gone by #4, and from the video it looked like we only thought about a trade (or maybe we were expecting the godfather offer to come to us) at the last moment.
I'm backing us for improvement this year with the shake up we've had...surely it couldn't get any worse?

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Firstly, Ali didn't change tactics mid-fight.
He purposely threw right hand leads from the bell to antagonize Foreman.
Then once he'd worked him up, he let him gas himself out.
He didn't change his strategy at all.
Secondly, WTF is 'strong shape'?
Seriously, are we going to have to endure more of these nonsensical ramblings from the coach again this year?

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
A strong shape ...
In 2D it's the Triangle; in 3D the Tetrahedron.
Maybe on the football field it's the way you arrange and organise your players - it could be a spine of tall players, defensive zones, perhaps to control the corridor, etc.. - I'm guessing.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Richo is fine tuning his megagon into a simple, but strong, dodecahedron.
Saints footy 2019 (cho 2.0) = dodecahedron footy.
Get around it.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
"Strong shape" in the article was of course referring to the players being in good shape, physically. Not some tactical mumbo-jumbo (I was just intentionally overreading it, for some fun - that's all).

I prefer this shape ...
What's the volume contained within a circle having a radius of "Z" and with a height/thickness of of "A"?
Answer on the bottom (try to work it out, first).

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Interesting read. Obviously lots of work going in to revitalise the Club at all levels. As usual, the proof will be in the eating.
I am sure that we will see improvement, but how much, I am not sure. We still lack "star quality."

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
This Gary Wyse guy seems like an interesting addition. If he can help Richo connect with the players correctly given the generational gap it will be beneficial. That said Richo should know how to inspire the players even if he bores the hell out of fans.

Re: Another article on the saints worth reading.
Thanks Saynta. I hope its a story that foretells improvement, of course, but reading AR's comments I mean spiritly wonder with increasing anxiety: does AR see the irony of how his game plan mimicked Foreman's bull at a gate approach, with less fire power but similar outcomes; whether he has any sense of humour most people and players could relate to; that having a specialist communications guy tutor you on translating ideas into words is a poor reflection on your verbals skills unless you are a Spaniard coaching in the EPL; and whether he sees his increasing delegation to assistants makes him increasingly redundant (hopefully not an accident by management), if his record hasn't already. Perhaps to compliment the comms guy the club could hire a stand up comic to take the micky out of some of last year's three quarter and half time sprays, a sort of: what I said, what you heard and what actually happened routine and finally in as a cheap second guess, would Tom Brady's ability to execute with skill, composure and confidence in the last couple of minutes of a tight game be a better allegory that a 45 year old boxing match, as inspirational to the human spirit both fighters were.
