The Cho: vote now
OK, I had no idea that there was any sexual referencing going on with the name "cho" or even "the cho". It seemed just a shortening of Richo, which is a shortening of anyone with surname Richardson. Alan Richardson is called Richo, Matthew Richardson too. I have a mate called Richo, and I am sure many of you do as well... So taking Richo for granted, it is a very normal aussie thing to shorten... and end with Cho.
In this interpretation there is simply nothing implied about Cho, good or bad, regarding Alan Richardson.
The other interpretation is very obscure, and I have seen no evidence of its use by posters. Indeed, the urban dictionary page was put up in 2007 and only has 16 likes and 17 dislikes. 33 votes in an 11 year period indicates that the term is obscure. And it has overall a negative tally.. a vote of dislike usually means that people do not believe that it is actually a term that is used.
So, I went to urban dictionary and I have suggested another definition "nickname of people with surname "Richardson"; shortened version of another nickname "RiCHO""
So, get on there and give it the thumbs up. Make this the "Top definition"

One this definition of the cho becomes official (as though urban dictionary is authoritative) we can all return to using this thread to discuss the saints.

'urban dictionary' isn't a widely accepted source of information for slang.SuperDuper wrote: ↑Mon 26 Nov 2018 3:19am OK, I had no idea that there was any sexual referencing going on with the name "cho" or even "the cho". Some random teenager invents a word and posts it there, this cannot be construed as being
proof of wide ranging usage.
I voted for your entry, and surely we'll pass the other entry in 11 days, not years

Re: The Cho: vote now
I had absolutely no idea of any sexual connotation for The Cho (like 99.9999% of everyone wouldn't have) however I did think it was a slightly derogatory term from people that wanted Richardson sacked for his 33% winning record.
We can't be going by some stupid web site to know which words or terms are not okay to use. If anything makes it into the proper dictionaries then that is another matter.

Re: The Cho: vote now
This actually pisses me off. I had no idea, nor had any requirement to go to the urban dictionary to find out what "the cho" actually meant.
It was always just a play on "Richardson". Slightly disrespectful inference but I considered it to be harmless.
IF there is a coffee mug, I want to buy one.
I went and made my own...

Re: The Cho: vote now
Time to end the discussion and the words/saying.
The term has been deemed offensive and its not to be used on here as stipulated in the moderators thread at the top.
How about everyone just stop talking about it and stop using the term whether you believe its offensive or not. Pretty simple. Move on and discuss footy.
Don't like it, walk and post on that Bigfootball site. Pretty simple again.
The fact everyone knows what the saying means now probably suggests you wouldn't want to associate yourself with it anymore (whether you believe its offensive or not).

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Get outta here...I'm right behind him for next year! Glad the club has given him some experienced and proactive assistants and hope he can build on the improvement we showed in 2017, this season being an aberration.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 26 Nov 2018 9:44am Why you would want to associate yourself with the saying is beyone me. StK must be the only sporting club or oganisation who reward mediocrity. Wherever Cho has his coaching finger, he needs to pull it out and reinvent himself next season.

Of course there is and at least some of the posters using the term were well aware of its offensive meaning.bigred wrote: ↑Mon 26 Nov 2018 10:11amBecause there is nothing wrong with it.tedtheodorelogan2018 wrote: ↑Mon 26 Nov 2018 9:44am Why you would want to associate yourself with the saying is beyone me. I have never used an offensive word or term to describe a saints official.
For your information, I have been on this forum or its predecessors before the turn of the century and long before a poster called stinger.
And I am not your mate.

Richo is a decent, family man doing his best (our recruiters are, too - even if I don't agree with their recruiting).
Some decorum and respect, please.
