BLOODY-SCUM-SUCKING-ESSENDON
I hate that club more than just about anything. Of course they were going to cut into our lunch.
Only they could be revived so quickly after being caught cheating. If it's not drugs, they're cheating the cap. Now they seem to have squeezed Shiel in there.
I really didn't want them to get Shiel, but now all their arsehole supporters are rubbing it in our faces. There's no parity in this damn competition.

AFL rewarded them for cheating. Round 1 pick and access to the best VFL talent for being the biggest cheats the AFL has seen.

Jesus, no money in the world will attract an A grader to our basket case dribbling club.
All good, I'm actually happy that we've kept pick #4 - but I have no faith in our recruiters getting it right.
Going to be a long 2019...the upside, is that Richo will be gone by about round 6.
The funniest though is Carlton missing out after flying him around in private jets lmao

And the club has the cheek to ring us and ask for an extra $200 to prop them up! Guess they won't be needing it now?saintadamski wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 2:34pm Jesus, no money in the world will attract an A grader to our basket case dribbling club.

Re: BLOODY-SCUM-SUCKING-ESSENDON
Glad we still have pick 4, which is too high for Shiel, who is very good but not elite. We had a red hot go though, and the club deserves credit for that.
Thinking about it, Essendon had the best hand, pick 9 which is closer to Shiel's value, and a list that is probably closest to challenging, even above Hawthorn. Bombers also apparently upped their offer in the latter stages.

Yes they do.
Dons have Pick 8. So that plus either next years first, a second rounder or a player GWS want will get it done.

"Why would he come to us?, we have made it clear that our number one target is a slow inside mid who cant kick and who's best days are behind him. Shiel would be thinking "stuff that"I'll have to do all the grunt work to make up for his inadequacies and hes getting $800k a year"
We will never attract an A grader until we stop recruiting other clubs rejects

Well the good news is that the Hawks did not land him. All their fans crowing about getting Shiel for peanuts was driving me batty.

Re: BLOODY-SCUM-SUCKING-ESSENDON
Calm down. We were never in the race to get Shiel. Quite frankly it isn't a bad thing to have missed out considering we were offering way more than he was worth. And we get to keep pick 4.Sainternist wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 2:31pm I hate that club more than just about anything. Of course they were going to cut into our lunch.

To be paying Shiel $1.3 mill you'd want to be guaranteed of winning a premiership. Shiel was never going to do that for us. We need more than him.
Besides, Hawthorn and Carlton were way ahead of us in terms of being able to land him. And that really is the point.
We should be seriously upset and worried that no A graders want to play for us. Not Shiel not Gaff ,not anyone. Doesn't matter how much money we were prepared to throw at them. Says it all really. And Hanners is way past his best.
Makes we wonder what our existing playing group really thinks of the club.
The word is out and the club needs to take a long, hard objective look at itself in every way. We are going backwards not forwards.

If the best we end up getting is Hanners and Barrett is proven right and Steven requests a trade, that will just about say it all.damienc wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 3:23pmCalm down. Shiel would have to do a lot more with us, to cover our lack of talent n speed in the midfield.

Offer big money.
Offer more opportunity.
Offer long contract.
Marquee games at the MCG such as ANZAC Day.
Big crowds every week.
Great development.
Finals.
We simply can't offer the last four. It's beyond the recruiters control.
The second is null, given he's a starting mid anyway.
And we certainly threw everything at the second and third ones.
What more exactly do you expect the club to do? Sometimes you just miss out. It's not always someone's fault or due to incompetence.

Re: BLOODY-SCUM-SUCKING-ESSENDON
Maybe the thousands of comments in threads here and on BF calling for more change at the club - ESPECIALLY in the coaching department need to be considered - I think a young champion is probably not that keen on coming to a club that has won 4 games when the club is publicly stating that there inst a major problem and the coach is blaming the players and saying next year he will coach more strongly !!rodgerfox wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 4:29pmCan I just ask, what can the club actually do to get a player to come?iwantmeseats wrote: ↑Tue 09 Oct 2018 3:06pmYeha nah well done to the club, well done, bravo! I am not that fussed about missing him weirdly enough and think there are number of other targets we should have chased instead - glad to keep pick 4
