Arryn Siposs to debut for Auburn University

Post: # 1754093Post Royston »

Arryn will be punting for the Auburn Tigers in the season opener vs the Washington Huskies in the college NCAA competition - early this Sunday morning (Melb time)

Playing at the recently completed (Aug 2017) Mercedes Benz stadium that looks out of this world.
A $1.6 billion spend on the build - makes Marvel Stadium look like Linton Street by comparison.
Expected crowd around 75,000 for the season opener.

Just an FYI - The venue will also host the 2018/19 Super Bowl in Feb 2019.

All the best to Sippa !!

Good on him. He always was a beautiful kick.

This is a good read:

Former St Kilda forward Arryn Siposs chases NFL punting dream
https://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ ... 5eb4d93c9d

ARIZONA State punter Michael Sleep-Dalton is excited to welcome another Aussie to the US college punting ranks, with former St Kilda forward Arryn Siposs setting his sights on the NFL.

Siposs, who played 28 games across five seasons with the Saints, has been awarded a three-year scholarship with Auburn University in the USA.

“It’s big time, great news for him,” Sleep-Dalton told the Herald Sun.

“Receiving a scholarship is such an amazing achievement, but getting it is just the first step.

“Once the winter running is over and the pads and helmets come out for spring ball, that is where the hard work starts.

“There’s going to be a lot of ups and downs and it’s how you respond.

“This game tests you both mentally and physically.”

Great news, I wish he could have made it at the saints. He did have big wraps on him at one stage.

Didn't he as a kid used to live over the back fence from Jeansy?

Sippa was not the preferred punter it seems.

1:21 left in the game so it should go for another half hour.

Is this good or bad as I have no idea above gridiron?

I remember his first goal in his first game I believe. Banged it from just inside the centre square against Blues on a Monday night. Thought he was gunna be a gun...like Spencer White, Tommy Walsh, Tom Ledger, Nate Freeman and many more since 09/10. Don’t get excited bout draft no more or trade week. Anyway... good luck to the big bad Sippa...

I was at that game too. Ripper goal under pressure too.

Played a few promising games in the forward line and following BJ’s departure... we decided to play him on the HBF as a quarter back, he didn’t do well right away so we tried the ultra great strategy of playing him as a HBF at Sandy and in the forward in the seniors whilst working up his endurance for an eventual transition to a mid role.

Strangely the “play him in every position” role wasn’t a winner. I watched his last game at Sandy which was a final and he lead a near 5 goal comeback by just bombing the ball forward from the HBF (70m kicks to the Saunter end in the wind) and we nearly pinched the game.

Ledger... aaah that’s another name I remember fondly. Played something like 10 games in 3 years back in the era with the sub and actually didn’t play a bad one in my opinion. But no there were concerns about his disposal so despite his regular features in the best at Sandy in his last season, Watters couldn’t find a way to fit him into the team that finished 12th or something.

Good times

Siposs had loads of talent but looked lazy on field, sort of like our entire team at the moment.

More from Sippa after his second game. I reckon he undersold the AFL a bit.

Interesting to hear him talking about how he had been intensely preparing for this moment.

Yet in his time at the Saints he had a reputation as a lazy trainer.
Always felt if he got properly motivated he could have been a really good AFL player especially with that long accurate kick.
Is $$$ his motivator?

Little hard to tell without seeing the kicks. 47 yard kick from the 50 is perfect as it pins them on the goal line ( like rugby league) but a 47 yard kick from deep in your own zone not great. Really need to see kicks though

best way to tell is if he kicks again!
