Has Geary done a Schneider?
Highlighted on one of the footy shows - last week after Geary was free kicked by Umpire Margetts he told him "You've had a shocking year!".
One wonders if this will have the same impact as the time when Schneider after not receiving a few obvious frees, then received one and clapped the umpires.
I don't think Schneider ever got another non-blatent free in the rest of his career.

A myriad of come backs on that one.
A simple “ ditto” would have done the trick!

Gears will now get pinged several times each game for little things that guys always get away with.
Holding, etc.
Rance, Rampe, other backmen get away with things that Geary will now get pinged for-
in revenge.

Rampe took a swipe at the umps weeks ago about the whole Clarke-Gill coffee thing. Hasn’t affected him

That was a rubbish free kick. Gears was pushed onto the ball then sat on. I'd love it for Saints to get a soft (or even valid free ffs) inside our forward 50 for once!

Re: Has Geary done a Schneider?
Good point however, also a slight difference. Rampe is a gun and Geary is a spud who'd barely get a game in a top 10 team; let alone a top 4 one.DJKCR wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 2:49pmWellardSaint wrote: ↑Tue 21 Aug 2018 1:17pm Gears will now get pinged several times each game for little things that guys always get away with.

Re: Has Geary done a Schneider?
One thing was noticeable on the weekend was the criticism the umpires copped all weekend from the media game callers on radio mostly but a bit on TV and rightly so. Umpiring is crap and they are starting to get called out now. It is not just the saints who cop bad decisions.

“I'd love it for Saints to get a soft (or even valid free ffs) inside our forward 50 for once!”
You must have got up to have a piss or something when Lonie kicked 2 goals in a row from debatable free kicks inside our 50!!
And thats just the one’s I can think of off the top of my head!

Debatable? What f****** nonsense.The_Dud wrote: ↑Wed 22 Aug 2018 2:14pm“I'd love it for Saints to get a soft (or even valid free ffs) inside our forward 50 for once!”

The frees were there. The Hawks newbie defender panicked against someone he had a clear advantage against. Lonie is 6" shorter but the Irishman got sucked into manhandling him. I thought when I saw them live that they were debatable but when you slow down the replay you can see that the umpire had no choice but to pay the frees. If they don't show slomo replays or if you don't have a device like Foxtel IQ or a Tbox to slow down the telecast you won't see it

Re: Has Geary done a Schneider?
If both players are holding each other and one gets a free kick, that will always be classed as ‘debatable’ in my book. If you exaggerate the effects of a slight push or high tackle then I think that gives the umpire the idea that you could possibly be staging, leading them to not pay a free.
Lonie appears to have developed a knack for winning free kicks, rightly or wrongly, but if he gets caught acting a bit too much then that will dry up quick smart, ala Lindsey Thomas.
