Waite v Brown
Waite - Late / Brown - Very Late
Waite - Left the ground / Brown - Did not leave the ground
Waite - Clear head high hit / Brown - Shoulder to Shoulder - Whiplash suffered.
Waite - In finals contention / Brown - Not in finals contention
It will be interesting the outcome
My prediction:
Waite - 2 weeks
Brown - 5 weeks

Waite - In finals contention / Brown - Not in finals contention

Re: Waite v Brown
Brown should get 3, Waite 1
If Waite was late then Brown was about 2021.
Saad got stretchered off the ground, Trengrove got up and played on. That is a big factor.

I can still remember the Giansiracusa hit on Kosi, and how outraged we all were about it. If I’m honest, if I’d been a Bombers fan on Friday night, I’d be ropeable about the hit on Saad.

So back for the finals next year?

Re: Waite v Brown
Brown didn't bump from the rear, it was late but side on, to Saad side on- the big complaint is that Saad didn't expect it..eh? since when should players expect every tackle or bump, and if you are being bumped sideways you should have enough peripheral vision to see it coming. The whiplash was unfortunate, but Saad was walking around freely and talking to others not long after. It should be a severe reprimand with a large fine..Brown wasn't going for the head. The worse part of it was the Channel 7 commentators almost crying about it ,as they had been barracking for Essendon all the game.

Nowadays that would be an immediate suspension and the media would be crucifying Gia for a cowardly act.CURLY wrote: ↑Mon 13 Aug 2018 10:58amI remember the Kosi hit too and we all got told how Kosi should have had better awareness.thejiggingsaint wrote: ↑Sun 12 Aug 2018 9:39pmI can still remember the Giansiracusa hit on Kosi, and how outraged we all were about it. Back in those days it was legal to shepherd by knocking out your opponent and it was ok if the guy who got bumped suffered concussion, whacked his head on the ground, and had his skull fractured. It took a few more years and another sport in the USA to alert the people running the AFL to wake up to the serious consequences of brain injuries.
The idiots at AFL house wanted to somehow appease the traditionalists last year and there was confusion iirc about whether you could or you couldn't bump off the footy. If the tribunal and MRP/MRO were consistent it wouldn't be a problem but they had allowed the bump to creep back in with some players getting off, even when their action had caused concussion.

Re: Waite v Brown
Got to be honest. I liked it. I always remember Dermott saying a team needs to make a statement even if they are being beaten on the scoreboard or are at the wrong end of the ladder. Plant a seed that may manifest in the opposition so the next time you play them they just start second guessing themselves or are distracted in the play.
Not condoning dog acts or violence, but playing on the edge. It still is a game of courage and psychological warfare after all.
The game got taken away from us in 5 minutes in Q2. We needed a statement to be made in that period of the game.

Agree I was happy he did it. We should have been able to capitilise on it. Unfortunatley the umpires decided Essendon needed a free ride.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Mon 13 Aug 2018 11:43am Got to be honest. Re: Waite v Brown
I was a bit of a fan too, a Saints player showing some intent has been rare over the last 2 seasons...Brown was going to legally iron Saad out come hell or high water, just a shame he was a bit slow. As far as the report goes, straight to the tribunal is an absolute joke, high hit my arse.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Mon 13 Aug 2018 11:43am Got to be honest. I liked it. Re: Waite v Brown
I liked what he did too but unfortunately he doesn't do enough of that (and neither does Carlisle). Plus it didn't help with the end result because our coach has no idea and no strategies if Steven and Ross are getting beaten in in the middle. Seb had a lot of possessions, but they weren't contested. Steele and Pierce and others were winning the footy and Ross received.Cairnsman wrote: ↑Mon 13 Aug 2018 11:43am Got to be honest. I liked it. We were getting beaten in the middle in that last 5 minutes before half time and with Steele the only mid that was winning any contested footy it was the perfect opportunity to get Acres or even Armo in the centre. The midfield coaches and also Richo continued to have Steven, Ross, and Steele in the 3rd and I did not see one time where he tried the big bodied Acres in there. He tried Gresh for quite a few bounces and Gresh was turning it over in the centre even when he got the clearance.
I think Ben Long also was tried in the middle in the third but no Armo or Blake. Game over by 3 quarter time. Terrible gameplan from St Kilda and no commentary at all from the muppets at channel 7 regarding tactics or match ups, just the usuall boring crap and no blowtorch at all on Richo or our other coaches.

Re: Waite v Brown
Get behind him, he is our fullback, he laid some one out ...so what? Only bloke this year who has actually looked like showing some vigour by shouldering saad. Didnt the coach desert him quick. Must be a bit of a worry for a player when you know the coach hasnt got your back. Typical of that nuffy though.

Highlight of the match for me. Really enjoyed seeing that. The guy's quick, but not quick enough to avoid Brownchico2001 wrote: ↑Mon 13 Aug 2018 2:01pm Get behind him, he is our fullback, he laid some one out ...so what? The coach broke a cardinal rule imhfo by saying the bump was late. Disgraceful .

Re: Waite v Brown
From the Hun.
"Surprisingly, Jarrad Waite escaped suspension for his high hit on Bulldog Jackson Trengove.
Waite jumped off the ground and hit an unsuspecting Trengove in the head during North Melbourne's loss to the Western Bulldogs on Sunday but was offered a $3000 fine for rough conduct.
"I've gotta say, I'm not one bit surprised that Jarrod Waite's done this, because, that's what he tends to do," Garry Lyon said on Fox Footy.
"He has these little brain fades where the thinks, 'I'm going to make him earn that'."

A High Hit ... is now the colar bone area.
MMM .. .interesting.
Lets whipe out the Hip and shoulder.
Going to get rubbed out beause of injury outcome and not actual outcome.
Perfectly ok to tackle. but if the other player gets injured its not allowed,

Why do we have to wait FOUR days for an outcome for Brownie?

Will be three weeks maximum, unless they get some vision that shows he conclusively got him in the head. The grading is wrong.
It WAS late, just not high.
Am still reeling from the pile on on Friday night's Foxtel coverage.

Re: Waite v Brown
Certainly late ... no argument possible there. Didn't look like he hit Saad in the head, so can't see how it was high. But we usually get screwed royally at the tribunal, so expect a 4 week penalty.

Re: Waite v Brown
Just digressing as there's another thing I remembered during that game that involved Brown. He doesn't talk enough and it was highlighted when he could have intercepted and marked the footy but Webster came over the top and spoiled him. It was early on in the game and he and Jimmy Webster collided in the pocket and Jimmy landed awkwardly. Jimmy was his usual desperate self and courageously put his body on the line, but the potential for injury could have been avoided if Brown yelled out 'mine' and showed more leadership. If he was as desperate and as hungry to win the footy as Jimmy he'd have yelled it out 3 times and he would have marked it.
I remember Lenny Hayes would be absolutely horse and lose his voice after nearly every single match. You have to talk constantly to your team mates if you want to play as a team. Finger pointing is not leadership. Nathan came to us at a time we thoght we were ready to challenge for finals. I think we need to change tact. I'm sure he is good value during the week and his experience may be good for some of the players, but I want to see Austin, White and especially Goddard get opportunities going forward. You never know, we may get a good leader in the backline from one of these blokes.
