Jack...
...of the Steele variety.
Kudos. 33 touches at 97%. Very much matched it with one of the best in the game, whilst giving away a massive size difference.
Don't get me wrong, Cripps played very well... But Jack did what he needed to and hurt him the other way as well. Played a great game.

Will be interesting to see how he goes next week against Martin

Re: Jack...
I know he kicked goals but Newnes gives me that Dawson/Raph feeling when he gets the ball!
Sinclair usually not a bad decision maker but sprayed a few tonight.

Re: Jack...
Was it jaxons who posted about Jack Steele's potential not so long ago? I think so.
Anyway, possibly the most influential game he's played for the Saints to date. Cripps borders on untaggable... Making him defend is where you can match it with him, and Jack showed him there are two sides to every story.

Might be the best player on our list this kid in the not to distant future.

Re: Jack...
he can be elite.
why were we so bad at the start if the year?
was it moving to moorabbin? A new game plan? getting used to new set up with monty and roo gone?
just remember 2008 first half we were shite. A lot of people thought saints were cooked. little did we know back to back flags just about happened from there.
im thinking its the move and leadership changes.
2020 we willbe top 4. depth is massive. elite ralentis there in billings, gresham, membrey, acres, steele, steven, carlisle, Long

Seems to have all the tools. Has had his ups and downs, but for mine, he played out of his skin tonight. He's a footballer. Liked the bit of mongrel too... Seemed to elevate him.

Re: Jack...
I’m thinking you are right about Riewoldt and Montagna being a factor. It’s taken longer than we thought it would for guys to take up the slack.SMS wrote: ↑Sat 14 Jul 2018 12:49am why were we so bad at the start if the year?

There is no doubt we’re playing better, but let’s keep it real ... it was only Carlton and everyone flogs them. Let’s see how we go next week against real opposition.

Re: Jack...
The coaches take a while to catch on. There were 6 other blokes that Richo could have dropped earlier this year after the North Melbourne debacle...he chose to drop Steele ( knowing some of the Richo supporters, they will probably give Richo credit for how well Jack is playing)

Re: Jack...
Well done Steele. He was a mighty pickup just like Membrey. We have developed both players very well.

I like Steele, he is a very good player, but if he is the best player on our list in the not so distant future, then we are truly and completely f***edjaxons wrote: ↑Sat 14 Jul 2018 12:28amYes it was.portosaint wrote: ↑Sat 14 Jul 2018 12:16am Was it jaxons who posted about Jack Steele's potential not so long ago? Re: Jack...
I urge a bit of caution here...
We’ve beaten Carlton, Goldcoast and an unproven Melbourne.
It looks like things are improving ATM but we really haven’t done anything of note against quality opposition.
Like many here, I really rate Steele and agree that he has the potential to be elite... however, to this point he has had a very underwhelming year and like Sinclair, Dunstan and Billings hasn’t come on as we’d have liked.
That said, last night was a brilliant.
Now I want to see him back up against quality opposition and back it up

Re: Jack...
Cripps had a brilliant 1st quarter. Steele was probably better for the next 3 quarters. You'd give it to Cripps slightly overall
