Massive crowd that day (standing room only for general admission) and a massive celebration when he banged that one in from outside 50.

2004 side was packed with elite talent.
As big a disappointment as 09and 10, if we hadnt have pitch invaded after GTrains 100th we would have beaten Port and the the declining Lions in the GF.
Just another way to lose...that time at out own self immolating hands.
Harvs, Lenny, Ball, Dal in the guts
Players Like Black, and Thommo were our 2nd tier

It feels like a long way away

i noticed that GT in his Season Review had a fair dig at the so called supporters
who (allegedly) booed Wool at the Plate Presentation using that moment as his launch off point

a good bit of footy

I was gutted. Went to town on here about the pitch invaders, some of whom were SS contributors.

They had the f****** gall to try and justify their actions.

Sidn't wash with me then nor now.

We had so much momentum when G kicked that 100th

Ffs we were about to break Port and go to the big show and these idiots run on....why ?

What was more important. I reckon I know.

Such a great team, stars all over the ground. Maybe it’s hindsight, but so far above the team we have now it’s not funny.

Nice call on the behind, must have been pre-conspiracy days...

I also bet Rod spent a few good nights awake after that!

I was at that Prelim final in 2004, If you have a look it was mainly Port people that ran onto the oval. We were up the other end of the ground. We were killing it up until then. Wanganeen kicked a super goal that hurt us. Guerra was running into an open goal and was severely infringed right in front of us with no free kick awarded. Chad Corne kicked a deliberate ball at our centre half forward with no free paid. I believe we would have beaten Brisbane the next week :(

Stevie Baker's old man was one who ran out, Stevie gave him a good old spray after the game!!!!!

Wool used to coach in the Mornington League, him and his lovely wife also had a pretty successful business at one point, not sure now!!!!!

Tell you what though, he is/was batting out of he's crease with his missus just quietly!!!!!

Good luck to him, many of us get lucky in that regard, comes with success!!!!! ;)

Great memories from 2004!
I too often wonder how we would have gone in a 2004 GF against a tired, weakened Lions outfit.
They knocked us off by 80 points at the Gabba in week one of that Finals series. They were a formidable side indeed, especially in Brisbane.
At the MCG however on the last Saturday of September, anything could have happened...Perhaps even a long goal just before the final siren to clinch the game for us?
Dreaming again!!!
Go saints!

I’m sick of just whnging about spectators going onto the go round that meant we lost. Who would know? You’re all just guessing and finding excuses. If we were good enough we would’ve won regardless.

Same as the bitching and moaning about the Milne bounce.

Bakes' old man in the ruck was he?

Might as well have been, probably would have done better.

Probably.

Let’s put it this way. Now I haven’t seen that game since it happened so I’m making the assumption Gehrig’s hundredth came from a mark and a set shot... apologies if this is wrong but let’s go with it.

Say he takes the mark and an atrocious free is paid against him... shocking. One of those the defender was holding the forward but somehow the forward is penalised.
Then from this free, the Power go coast to coast and goal halting the momentum.

Do we then post for years to come that a free kick in the first or second quarter cost us the match.

Doubt it

Are you proposing a hypothetical where the result is the same but you are removing the hypothetical?

Mind blown.
