Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
Every yesr the Hall of Fame trots out players who I consider to be no where near the calibre of Trevor Barker. If he does not get included this year, the club needs to do some serious lobbying to rectify this.
Cheers

I couldn't believe it, either. A Hall of Fame laden with a hell of a lot of horseshit!
No Barker and no Winmar. It seems the AFL has only contempt for the St.Kilda Football Club, Saynta

Problem is Winmar and Barker did not play for a powerhouse club.
A club with lots of wasta (clout) and many members.

No argument with Sheedy as a legend, Johnston, Scarlett, Wallace and don't know anything about the WA pair.
But Neitz!
Really?
David Neitz from Melbourne?

Because Melbourne will win the flag this year due to some miracle/other teams having a shocking finals series.Joffa Burns wrote: ↑Wed 30 May 2018 7:18am No argument with Sheedy as a legend, Johnston, Scarlett, Wallace and don't know anything about the WA pair.

Re: Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
There's no doubt that Barks would be a worthy inclusion. I don't think any supporter from any club who watched VFL footy in the late 70s/80s and early 90s would disagree. Having said that - Geoff Raines isn't in the HoF either.
Unfortunately, it's a big problem that Barks didn't play for a bigger Melbourne club. It's been widely reported in the past that those entering the HoF have had their bona fides lobbied hard - over a period of time - by their clubs and then influential supporters.
My personal view is that this kind of thing says everything about our club. We're more interested in blindly backing delusional 5 year plans; virtue signaling and supporting causes rather than putting some effort into legitimising the broader legend of one of our favourite Sons. Given how shite our club is perceived by a large majority of its own supporters and members - you'd think they might be smart enough to realise that making it a non-negotiable purpose to have Barks rightly inducted to the HoF might actually given them some positive PR (and breathing room).

Saintmatt .................a good post, Barks was a top footballer and a good bloke and I think his time will come. I think that Rooey should give barks some free airtime on one of his many shows he appears on and promote him that way and Frawley should lobby the same.

Re: Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
That's exactly how it gets done in a covert sense. That helps to create an awareness and a narrative around which broader discussion can then ensue. However, there's an official nomination that must come from the club - and then the lobbying begins. I wish they'd put some real effort and purpose into it. It's the least they could do for a bloke who, with the help of a few magnanimous others, kept the place solvent in the dark days of the 80's.chico2001 wrote: ↑Wed 30 May 2018 2:10pm Saintmatt .................a good post, Barks was a top footballer and a good bloke and I think his time will come. Re: Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
There are many great players from the 60s and 70s who are not in, and it seems that they are a little stuck given only 6 go in a year they will never catch up to that era
I mean even Jonathan Brown is not in HoF (which i think is crazy)
Don't forget Roo will go in 1st year that he can, Lenny Hayes would be some chance as well
And over the next couple of years there are many recent retirees (think Fletcher, Mitchell, Pavlich etc) who will also go straight in
Just for the record I think Ditterich should go in before Barker, revolutionary player, who was that bridge between the kick and prop game to a running game

I was at a function where he was one of the speakers. It was about the same time that Craig O'Brien was kicking a bagful every week.Sainternist wrote: ↑Wed 30 May 2018 3:52pmStory time, please, Saynta. It wouldn't surprise me that he'd hate St.Kilda, though.
I asked Sheedy what he thought of O'Brien. He was obviously pissed that Craig had come good at St Kilda and couldn't accept that anyone would want to leave Essendon to come to a s*** club like the Saints. His admiration was only grudgingly given. Mind you most of the people associated with the Dons have never respected the Saints.
However. I think Obee was pushed out of bomber land. Played a year in the saints reserves before he came good,
He hated the maggots more than I do. Followed one home from a tribunal hearing once which caused him big trouble.
Got pissed with us over contract negotiations and followed plugger to sin city.

Why or why Nicky Winmar is not included beggars belief? His stance for pride in his race at Victoria Park kicked off the whole anti discrimination awareness in the AFL, and that doesn’t even take into his account his brilliant football career as well.

Re: Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
Again, no one could argue against that.
In these PC times, you would think that the AFL would be falling over itself to include him, unless Eddie has put the black ball in. Wouldn't trust him not to. Cuz made the filth look bad on that day.

Re: Hall of Fame - Trevor Barker this year??
Maguire on Triple M this morning talked about Barker not being in Hall of Fame.
Can't remember what he said but was along the lines of disbelief he was not hall of fame.
Also said Malthouse was not Hall of Fame which would also be a shock.
In regard to Winmar I spoke with a Saints official a couple of years back and was told the club was lobbying hard for Winmar's inclusion amongst others.

Well how can you put TB and Winmar in the same class as Barry Hall?

Obrien kicked 50 odd in 1994 from memory before leaving to the Swans, his one really good year.saynta wrote: ↑Wed 30 May 2018 5:16pm

Got pissed with us over contract negotiations and followed plugger to sin city.
So, the reigning premiership coach (1993 baby bombers) and three-time premiership coach at this point gets approached by a more than likely pissed knobhead at a function who tries to raise his shackles carrying on about a player the coach had let go.
Sheedy possibly tells the c0ckhead to move on and the moron believes that Sheedy now hates the Saints and was annoyed about cutting O’Brien.
Can’t know Sheedy to well, the guy has always had admiration and spoke highly of Stephen Milne who forged a great career after not making the grade at Essendon. I recall Sheedy & Essendon chasing Milne when Grant Thomas was going to trade him, but Thomas got the axe before he could do so.
I guess you are lucky Saynta that Sheedy didn’t give you a clip on the chin to shut your smart mouth.
