Could be worse....
I mean, imagine if he had references from Essendon.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
Good player, but can't seem to keep out of trouble. Maybe he needs a bayside change of scenery?! I would take him though as he has skill and can run.
But I really think we should go for Meg Hutchins. She is 36 and got delisted by the Collingwood AFLW side.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-04-19/p ... ntract-mid#/ST KILDA has flagged its interest in out-of-contract Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey, with the Magpie shaping as an in-demand player this year despite his off-field indiscretions.
Rival clubs believe De Goey could command around $500-600,000 per year for his next deal if the former No.5 draft pick has a consistent season for the Pies.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
Normally I'd say steer clear. This guy can seriously play. In right age bracket too. If pies release him he's either a) wanting massive overs like 600-700k or b) even more trouble than what has been reported in the media.
We are that devoid of really good footballers, I still say chase him and try and turn his troubled life around. Pay him overs. Do anything!

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
Depends what they want for him but I would probably say no. Remember the last pie we got with hamstring issues (albeit more serious ones). We would look foolish getting another and one that has a poor attitude and bad reputation.

Absolutely good footballer.
Rate him highly.
Doesn't fall over. Strong. Beautiful kick. Tough.
Quite similar to Billings in general.
Not really top of our needs list.

Unless we can turn Billings into a nice outside midfielder? Either way, worth a crack...Pies need a tall, what do we have to throw in? Longer, Hickey, Paddy, Gehrig?Con Gorozidis wrote:Absolutely good footballer.

Yes we can swap our second pick for him.....oh wait!

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
A definite yes from me. The boy can play alright and fits our needs perfectly. Unfortunately, as you pointed out SR, have neither a second nor third rounder to trade. In any event, Colonwood would want our 1st pick, even though he's damaged goods. I don't think they'd want anything else we had except for Blacres, Billings or the Gresh. All off limits I would've thought.saintsRrising wrote:Yes we can swap our second pick for him.....oh wait!
Added to that, the ghost of Andrew Lovett still haunts the corridors of Moorabbin. Very tempting and at the right price would be good, but I can't see how it will happen. What's the bet farkin' Hawthorn or the cats end up getting him and he becomes an A Grader.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
This guy craps all over Lovett - the most overated footballer I've ever seen the Saints chase. Lovett was older, had never finished higher than 10th in an average club's B&F. He dominated a couple of Anzac Day games in front of big crowds. Unless the Saints were going to turn him into more than what he was that trade stunk from the outset.St. Paul wrote:A definite yes from me. The boy can play alright and fits our needs perfectly. DeGoey has come off a 4 week suspension and looked superb. I personally think he's in the best 3 players at the Pies. If they wanted our 1st rounder I would hand it over before they had a chance to think about it.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
My preference is keep our first draft pick and use it in the draft and get Gaff as a FA.
We will have to pay overs for Gaff but seriously who cares.
We are paying overs for most of our list already anyways.

Whatever interest Gaff may have had in us must surely be evaporating rapidly.congorozides wrote:My preference is keep our first draft pick and use it in the draft and get Gaff as a FA.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
In what is being touted as one of the strongest drafts on record we are going to have a top 4 pick. I would hate to trade that away when in theory we should be adding to the building blocks of Clark & Coffield
I can’t see us magically rocketing up the ladder in 2019 so next years first draft pick should also be off limits - butte club may entertain a Carlisle type deal eg Saints 2019 first rounder in return for De Goey and 2019 2nd rounder from Collingwoods

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
We haven't got one of those. I really can't see how we could manage given our current drafting position. We won't give up a first rounder for him, especially if it stays in the top 5 or so. We all know that Colonwood is only second to the dopers in overrating their players and being difficult to deal with. I'd love to get him, but something will have to change drastically for that to happen.parkeysainter wrote:He is not worth a 1st round pick. No way. 2nd round yes.

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
Those who are living in some draft fantasy where all early picks (particularly those picked by Saints recruiters) turns to football gold, make me shake my head in dispair. Here we have a young man who would walk into our team and straight away be in our top 2 players. He could play for the next 8-10 years. No, we should roll the dice at the draft like Sydney and Hawthorn and the Cats try to avoid. Because it's so much more romantic to draft a fresh faced 18 yr old and see him become a champion before our eyes. Why grab a ready made young player??
Who says Clarke and Coffield are going to become stars? They might but who knows? Blind freddy can see Degoey's talent. We all thought that Billings was going to be a star. He still might but at the same age, I will take the bigger, stronger, more consistently skilled Degoey every day of the week.
Have we learnt nothing from the McCartin debacle. The draft is no guarantee. Proven players are. Trade your early picks for the Mitchells and O'Mearas and get up the ladder

Re: Do we Do Goey?????
There's truth in what you say Moods. We got Baldock in the 60s and the Hawkers got Huddo, both of whom were in their 20s at the time. I reckon we go for Gaff and get Rory Sloane in a superannuation deal. Those guys would make Paddy better.Moods wrote:Those who are living in some draft fantasy where all early picks (particularly those picked by Saints recruiters) turns to football gold, make me shake my head in dispair.
