GWS to crash and burn? So much talent there, and most of it now getting to a good age and so I cannot see them missing the 8 despite their lack of a club vibe.saynta wrote:Here's my go.

Re: Pick your top 8.
Saints should get into the lower 8, if not then expect heads to roll at season's end.
Here it is for 2018 going into finals:
Sydney
Richmond
Adelaide
Port A
WCE
Geelong
St Kilda
Essendon

Not having perused the draw, but...
Adelaide
Sydney
GWS
Richmond
Melbourne
Port
Essendon
Geelong
Saints
Sorry, too many unknowns this season to confidently say we'll make the top 8 for sure...although Geelong's position is tenuous, based on the efforts of some of their older chaps (Scott Selwood's already broken down, so not a great omen for them). Port's AFL garage sale team may also take a while to gel, but can't see them missing the finals.

Re: Pick your top 8.
NIcky Dal has written us off. Can’t see us making the 8.
To be fair I’m struggling to see it as well but you never know we could have a 2004 like start to the season

Read the article and hard to argue with it. Who are we really going to knock out of the eight. Easier draw does help but needs a huge uplift from last year. I am hoping for more consistent games, our worst not being as bad as previous years and a newbie playing well above their expectations

Re: Pick your top 8.
Top 4 prospects - Crows, swans, Giants, Tigers, Cats. Based on last year and team changes these are the most likely.
Top 8 prospects
Port - Big ins with Tom Rockliff, Steven Motlop and Jack Watts joining, Rockliff is a huge in and will now play in a team that can really play so he will show his true potential. If they fire port play finals
Bombers - Another 3 ins Devon Smith, Adam Saad and Jake Stringer but not as big as ports. Lost some experience at end of last season but team now has another pre-season in them and the drug saga is now done.
West Coast - Nic Nat return will help but loss of Priddis will hurt more. Need a huge uplift from other players
Dogs - Lost a lot of experience end of last year and their game plan has been countered now. Jackson Trengove and Josh Scache will help a bit but unlikely for 8. Plus they cant kick straight like us
Melbourne - Lost watts and gained Lever. Helps fix leaky defense and Gawn looks good. Should get there is Sept
Hawks - No Hodge or Gibbo makes this too hard
Saints - lost a lot of experience with Joey and Roo leaving and picked up too many defenders in the Draft and no genuine outside mid; Hunter may play later in the year there but by then it may be too late. One of the worst shots at goal in comp and Massive over handballers. Need to fix a lot of issues to get there and a lot to go right. Looks like 2019 for me

The retirements of Nick. Joey and Dempster are big shadows to cover. I don't think we'll go backwards, but holding our position is likely to be the best we'll be able to do this year. We're certainly a far more even team than we've been in the past, but 2018 has to be all about development, and building an overall team strategy. No more 15 goal hidings down at Geelong and interstate would make a refreshing change.
We need to be more attacking and to learn how to kick straight too.

Re: Pick your top 8.
it's sobering and good to see that some here have removed the rose coloured glasses ....that's healthy .. reality is the way to go...This club is one of the oldest with the worst performance(flags)..time to get real.
