They can't be free agents unless they come out of contract.
In European soccer that never happens.

I think some of our younger blokes are meeting expectations and perhaps the development coaches and the footy department in general should be questioned rather than the individuals. Some of the blokes named are just finding their feet and I wouldn't be writing off DMac or White just yet.
Armo and Gears shouldn't be in the group either as I believe they have mostly played to their potential. Both still deserve their spots. Gears can fulfil a role as either a lock down tagger or a lock down defender on a small forward. He has proven himself time and time again. He has consistently gained enough votes in the Trevor Barker medals to justify his salary. Armo is also one of the warriors that has helped maintain some sort of competitive midfield for us over an extended period and he has a role to play for another couple of years imo.
If Hannas gets a potential 5 year deal for $800K per annum and the powers that be are willing to trust that he'll be fit enough and durable enough, then I'd back Armo for an extension to 2020 and I reckon it's a safer bet than Hannas going beyond 3 years.

Wilkie as 2019 (mandatory minimum for rookie is 1 year)
But
Alabakis as 2021 (same height as Mason Cox and Aaron Sandilands at 211cm - he will need those 3 years to learn the game)

Also note on Footy Wire that all 3 of Gold Coasts first round draft picks including Ben King only signed mandatory minimum 2 year contracts.
Lukosius, Rankine off to Adelaide or Port Adelaide in 2 years
Ben King back to St Kilda in 2 years.
Clubs normally like to sign first round picks to more than 2 years - Max King already signed for 4 years.

I can't imagine McCartin or Roberton playing on next year due to medical issues.
Geary, Armitage, Brown getting old (they no longer wear nappies says young man of 67).
They will be looking at 1 year extensions.
Not many of the 2019 contracts looking like candidates to be chopped.

I think the rice, white, Pierce or Longer will be in trouble.
Geary, Armitage, and Carlisle will be on 1 year deals. All of the rest of the 2019 hopefully will be extended.
