Re: Irish lads
Whisper is Connellan will play this year. He has lots of speed and wheels mixed in with decent skills.
Possibly a forward role is on offer.

Re: Irish lads
Connellan is the quickest player I've ever seen at St Kilda. If he can develop sufficiently, he'll be a nightmare for the opposition.

Re: Irish lads
The coaching staff are obviously liking what they're seeing, enough for the media boys to do a fluff piece on them. Connellan has the tools to make it and his speed is exactly what we need. Really these 'project players' are just a shot in the dark so even if they get one game its an amazing effort by them and the coaching staff to get them there.

If you look around the AFL clubs and see how some of the other Irish boys are going I think it is more than a shot in the dark.
I think they have a genuine shot at it.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Irish lads
I have been excited several times in the past with the Irish experiment being hyped up over the years, prime example Mc Nicholl in the late 80s and Walsh a few years ago touted as mega talents that went no where. I will temper my expectations and hope that we can get lucky somewhere because to be honest father son opportunities have not been kind to us either.

Re: Irish lads
Connellan is seriously quick in terms of leg speed. The only question that remains is, can he get the footy and actually play the game? If not, we've got an early favourite for the GF sprint.
"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."

"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Let's hope they don't play with any niggles, otherwise you'll be off the bandwagon and in to them!!!!!Con Gorozidis wrote:If you look around the AFL clubs and see how some of the other Irish boys are going I think it is more than a shot in the dark.

All the best to them though, all jokes aside, hope they go we'll and Con can continue to be positive about something!!!!!

But need more than speed.
Rhys Stanley did well in one GF sprint...

No risk taking Saints. In 2018 we must play both of our Irish lads.

Re: Irish lads
Problem with Stanley is that he's got no ticker. Could be a great player but is scared to throw himself in there and is injury prone.WellardSaint wrote:Speed is great.Drake Huggins wrote:Connellan is seriously quick in terms of leg speed. He gets plenty of the footy at Sandy, and generally uses it well!Drake Huggins wrote:Connellan is seriously quick in terms of leg speed. The only question that remains is, can he get the footy and actually play the game? If not, we've got an early favourite for the GF sprint.

Re: Irish lads
While Connelan is 187cm he could end up as our "small" forward.
With his pace he is capable of applying great defensive pressure, while being able to also get to and create offensive opportunities. He may well be the player that the Saints hope Long can be.
From what I saw this season his ability to read the play well came on in leaps and bounds (and that is what held Holmes back, and has help many internationals back).

Re: Irish lads
That's music (Irish) to my ears BS. Didn't see much of Sandy this year, but saw a few flashes of excellence from him. Our perceived speed problem could be solved in one fell swoop. Clark, Connellan and the longshot, Freeman.Bernard Shakey wrote:He gets plenty of the footy at Sandy, and generally uses it well!Drake Huggins wrote:Connellan is seriously quick in terms of leg speed.
