Pick 34 for 2018 2nd rounder
full trade:
in: pick 34 and 2018 fourth round pick of Port Adelaide
out: 2018 second rounder and this year's picks No.59 and No.63.
seems odd?
59 and 63 are clearly not useful but 34 for a 2018 2nd rounder?

I'm pretty sure I've heard someone say that trading out our future 2nd round pick should be called the Ameet specjal
Fortius quo Fidelius means Strength through Loyalty. . . I think

Re: Pick 34 for 2018 2nd rounder
Makes perfect sense if we have someone we're targeting in the draft. Ameet said we'd trade back in to the 2nd round this year and we have. No reason we can't do it again next year.
All things going well our second round pick next year will be in the 30s anyway.

AFL website says it's a straight swap of 3rd and 4th round picks in 2018 only. Don't know which is correct

That's it. Most likely so we can acquire a future prospect.outside66 wrote:I reckon this might be lined up for Tom McCartin

Re: Pick 34 for 2018 2nd rounder
We picked up Logan and got pick 34 this year. I am happy with that.
Yes, we gave up a 2nd pick for 2018 as part of the deal but that pick will probably be late 20's for Port Adelaide based on where Saints finish on the ladder and after free agency compo picks are sent to teams. That second round pick will barely be a few spots off pick 34 we are going to use this year.
Seriously, who cares about those much later picks in the 50's and 60's as part of the this particular trade. They're junk lottery picks to be honest.
We are also going to use 2 x top 10 picks this year which offsets not using a 2nd round pick in 2018 which would be in the mid to late 20's anyway as I detailed above. I reckon we will attack FA and trades strongly next year also.
Plus we still have our 1st round pick in the bank for 2018.

Re: Pick 34 for 2018 2nd rounder
Or did we need a 2017 2nd rounder to try to lock a deal in for a player this last hour of trade and it don't come off?

It happened in the last 2 mins of the trade period though. I'm not sure I buy it.Joffa Burns wrote:This sounds the most logical.BackFromUSA wrote:Or did we need a 2017 2nd rounder to try to lock a deal in for a player this last hour of trade and it don't come off?

i think what is most logical is that this was all part of the Logan deal wth both Port and the Saint's agreeing that after the initial trade went though that we still owed Port some extra sweetener and that this going to be affected by what picks rach club ahd left. So it may be that our trade did not go through, or Ports...or that Ports trading dif affect things.
So IMO this trade was just all part of the Logan Trade and so our unders in this is part of the trade cost to acquire Logan.

Shows us to have traded away our 2018 2nd rounder for 2017 pick 34
If 2017 and 2018 drafts are equal we need to finish 4th
But then we gave away picks 59 & 63 worth 270 points and got back Adelaide Crows 4th rounder worth 9 points if Adelaide finish 2nd again.
If we finish 11th again and Adelaide 2nd
We would seem to have LOST about 422 points worth about pick 40.
Even being 2018 premiers we have still lost 202 points.
This is a DISASTER
Have we renamed the club Hawthorn

We paid 288 points for Logan based of clubs finishing the same places on the ladder.saintsRrising wrote:Joffa Burns wrote:This sounds the most logical.BackFromUSA wrote:Or did we need a 2017 2nd rounder to try to lock a deal in for a player this last hour of trade and it don't come off?

Sweetening by 422 points brings us to 710 points midway pick 26-27

Why rubbish? We have done exactly this in previous years; ie The McEvoy trade.saynta wrote:""both Port and the Saint's agreeing that after the initial trade went though that we still owed Port some extra sweetener".saintsRrising wrote:Joffa Burns wrote:This sounds the most logical.BackFromUSA wrote:Or did we need a 2017 2nd rounder to try to lock a deal in for a player this last hour of trade and it don't come off?

Also the year we gained Membrey the Saints had agreed with the Swans that they would send a pick their way if we could, but the way deals panned out we could not. Swans still did right buy us though allowing Membrey to start training with us earlier than if he Swans had of dug their heels in.

Club will have known by today that we would not use these picks and so hence could be included as a sweetener at no real effective cost to the Saints.SuperDuper wrote: this year's picks No.59 and No.63.
