2017 Draft. Picks 7,8- who do you want?
Well, after a quiet trade period its official we have 7,8. Would rather have 2 but ok.
Pick 7: Brayshaw
Pick 8: Bonar - Higgins - Coffield or H.Clarke
FFS I WILL SPEW UP IF WE GET THE FOLLOWING ...
Constable - NO. Vanilla inside mid just crap.
Stephenson - NO. Fiora mkII. His disposal around ground is deplorable. Looks unnatural to me and will be found oit in AFL
Noughton, Allen, Balta or any talls from interstate - We shouldnt after getting Austin.
Thoughts? What is your dream result? AND Who would you accept and what picks would make you spew up?

A sliding Cerra/Brayshaw and Bonar for me
Pick 7 looks like however is left... pick 8 is wide open
I somewhat agree regarding Stephenson, i would rather he went before our pick and that we get someone else
If he makes it to us.. I have no idea, our recruiters know more about him than me... looked pretty dominant at TAC level..
Powell-Pepper had question marks on his kicking and did well this year

Don't care who but 2 x decent paced and skilled mids that make good decisions with a footy. Preferably quick players though.

I'd be happy with your first option, SMS. I wouldn't discount Higgins. Very Gresham like and super determined to make it.
"Is this the right room for an argument?"
"I told you once."
"No, you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"Listen, an argument isn't just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says, it's a series of statements designed to support a particular conclusion."
"No, it isn't."
"Oh, I've had enough of this."
"No you haven't"
"Oh shut up."

Now that the trade period is finished I suppose we'll have to make do with more speculation come the draft in 5 weeks time.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: 2017 Draft. Pick 7, 8 - who do you want?
Pick 7 Aidan Bonar.......will be a bonar-fide star
pick 8 Darcy Fogarty.....was touted possible #1 before injury and his form poor on return so should slide
Both these guys have an X-factor which i think we need and not just run-of-the-mill "big pozzie no impact type players" we already have enough off
Also welcome to the Saints Logan Austin
Will be interesting to see what the plan is for pick 34?
Im guessing that means Holmes is goneski?

Re: 2017 Draft. Pick 7, 8 - who do you want?
Here's how some potential first round mids went at the champs:
Jack Higgins - 109 disposals (27.3); 53 contested (13.3); 20 clearances (5); 6 goals (1.5)
Nick Coffield - 89 disposals (22.3); 30 contested (7.5); 7 clearances (1.8); 1 goal (.3)
Luke Davies-Uniacke - 87 disposals (21.8); 31 contested (7.8); 12 clearances (3); 3 goals (.8)
Charlie Constable - 80 disposals (26.7); 29 contested (9.7); 7 clearances (2.3); 1 goal (.3)
Paddy Dow - 76 disposals (19); 49 contested (12.3); 21 clearances (5.3); 3 goals (.8)
Adam Cerra - 73 disposals (18.3); 34 contested (8.5); 17 clearances (4.3); 2 goals (.5)
Cam Rayner - 73 disposals (18.3); 45 contested (11.3); 15 clearances (3.8); 12 goals (3)
Jaidyn Stephenson - 64 disposals (16); 17 contested (4.3) 3 clearances (.8); 6 goals (1.5)
Hunter Clark - 61 disposals (15.3); 22 contested (5.5); 0 clearances; 2 goals (.5)
Lochie O'Brien - 47 disposals (15.7); 7 contested (2.3); 3 clearances (.8); 1 goal (.3)
Andrew Brayshaw - 42 disposals (21); 18 contested (9); 2 clearances (1); 1 goal (.5)
If Higgins is there, he at least has to be considered. He's taller than Lachie Neale, Dion Prestia, Devon Smith or Dayne Zorko. Not significantly shorter than guys like Sam Mitchell, Tom Mitchell or Zach Merrett either. He has the right given name too.
You could mount a defence for anyone on that list, really. And it's not exhaustive either. There's some good talls kicking around too. 7+8 is a good spot to be in. It's good to be back in the second round too, even if late.

Re: 2017 Draft. Pick 7, 8 - who do you want?
I think Freo having the two picks in the top 5 will help us out. They will take whoever is left of Rayner or Davis-Uniacke at 2, then might be willing to take a punt on WA boy Naughton at 5 which they may not have otherwise, given the risk with key defenders early in the draft. Along with the possibility of Collingwood taking another tall in Brander may see a more highly rated mid slip down to 7, when they previously would have gone top 5.
I am also hoping we take Brayshaw at 8, really like what I have seen/heard of him.

Coffield and Clark. We need fast and good users of the ball.

Who are the fastest players on that list.
Higgins looks a likely type by his numbers but is he inside or outside.
Higgins and Coffield look the likely options for our picks....be great to have a top 4 option ad they all seem ready to go.

Re: 2017 Draft. Picks 7,8- who do you want?
*Updated. Higgins may be small but OMG extremely skilled and he looks strong like gresham and unlike Lonie. He is another gresham so I shouldnt dismiss.
OUT Monty, Lonie IN Higgins.
Coffield is interesting. Is he a midfielder? or more like brandon white, roberton?. Hes bloody good but Brayshaw, Higgins maybe the way to go for us.

I left Raph Clarke out because of all the haters on here, but he was drafted at pick 8 in 2003,

Geez I don't know any of these guys but I hope the ones we pick up end up being champions

First 4 look like Rayner, Davies Uniacke, Dow, Cerra . Brander/Hays comes into the mix next with Collingwood and perhaps Free looking for bigger players. The that leaves a mix of Brayshaw, Stephenson, Coffield Constable, Higgins, with Bonar as a smokey.
My guts says they will go for Stephenson with one pick if he is available as looking for players with x factor and will the "The Bont" in the back of their minds. Perhaps Brayshaw or a slider with the other . Pretty even outside top 4

Re: 2017 Draft. Picks 7,8- who do you want?
Am I the only one on here that feels that we have failed badly this trade period. There were players that were gettable that are probably superior to anything that we will draft with 7& 8. So next year we have the same team that got us to 11th this year plus a couple of under developed kids that may make it or not. Will be interesting to see how well the Schache\ Stringer types perform compared with our picks in what is considered the worst draft in years. I don't watch the draft and have no interest in the kids until they play senior football. Seems like another five year rebuild coming.

Brayshaw & Higgins . . . just sayin
Both sound very professional & focused. Of coarse I have little idea.
Sounds like a tricky job especially if there are sliders on the day.
And pick 34 anyone ?

Re: 2017 Draft. Picks 7,8- who do you want?
Its all about needs. So who did we miss? Devon Smith probably the only one I can see. Shouldve got Smith/Tomlinson for 8, Hickey. But all good. We got Austin who will be a good get I reckon. Get excited we bring in 4 new players to add to the 10-12 that we have on the sidelines. Who knows how good Long will be?? Christ sakes we all judging too early. We are building like togers with UNITY. NO ONE LEFT thats amazing. We hVEA GROUP OF YOUNG guns that have been togethe for years already wait til they get on the park for a year or so. 2020-2026 could be a huge sustained top 4 run. when we get there it wont be a flash in the pan.evo wrote:Am I the only one on here that feels that we have failed badly this trade period. So who is going to be de-listed?
We have 4 draft picks to use and Marshall should be promoted imo.
Joey, Roo, Dempster off.
So 2 more have to go.
Holmes and one other. I would put Pierce or Lonie off.

1/ He was still raw last year. There was a lot to like, but he still needs to improve.
2/ I believe that from 2018 on that clubs can freely play rookies in the firsts if they choose too.
