TONY Lockett — the greatest goalkicker in AFL history — has marked 30 years since his Brownlow Medal by sitting down with Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson in his most revealing interview ever.
“Plugger” opens up about his “normal” life after football with his wife, four daughters and his greyhounds on a farm near Bowral in New South Wales.
And the St Kilda and Sydney Swans legend — who kicked a record 1360 goals in 281 games — recalls with few regrets the most brutal game he played.
In 1994, Lockett knocked out Sydney’s Peter Caven with a vicious elbow to the head, aimed a torp kick at a Sydney fan’s head, won the game with 11 goals, and was ultimately suspended for eight matches.
“None of us are perfect and I never claimed to be,” Lockett said this week.
In the wide-ranging interview, Lockett discusses the modern game, Lance Franklin, marriage equality, his reputation as a football bad boy, his obsession with motorbikes, Donald Trump and what his Brownlow Medal means.
In 2015, he was named a legend of the Australian football Hall of Fame.
Plugger is being inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame on October 12.

Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly..!!
The two words that stand out in that article are "four daughters".
Imagine, imagine, imagine if he had had four SONS !!!!!!!!!
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
Spud would convince him to sign them over.
Plugger listens to Spud.

Very fit and strong athletes are more likely to produce girls rather than boys, genetically.
Fun fact.
My buddy GPH would back me up, if only he were allowed to post on here, without being pilloried in a witch-hunt by the Spanish Inquisition.
Come back, Mr Headband!
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn
What an absolute legend! Will always love Plugger, regardless of him going to Sydney. It was an absolute honour to watch him play as a young lad. I am of the belief that our club may not have endured the lean years of the 80s without Plugger.
Curb your enthusiasm - you’re a St.Kilda supporter!!
“Aaah, the pig. It has stood the test of time, the pig. The pig’s had a hell of a run. It’s 25 years old, the pig. It’s the longest living pig in history.”

He literally made Moorabbin rock - what a an absolute colossus of the game he was. The best I have seen.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

As lean as his greyhounds.

The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.
