The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
Looks as though we may need him now.
If so, hopefully he won't take up too much of the war chest. He'll be 28 in 2018, so he's not exactly a long-term investment.
Time to get the Rocky rumour mill in full swing!

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
Rockliff, not that I've watched him much, really strikes me as a B grade player. Maybe my opinion of him is swayed by his demeanour, which is unimpressive. I really think paying this guy what he'll want will be clutching at straws. If we were to get him, the marketing department would try and present him as a franchise player, a star, but I've never seen the evidence.
I guess he'd be in our best 22, but he'd also be an expensive twat and I feel like it's not the right way to go. We should try and import genuine guns who will be around for a while, not plug leaks with guys that cost too much. There's nothing wrong with growing your own and I would like to think the club has the faith in its players and itself to be able to do so without paying too much for a guy like this.
Playing him for 3 years at the expense of Gresham, Acres, Sinclair, Long et al, who could be around for another 10+, is too short-sighted.

Not worth it at 27-28. We have enough players like him already. Steele, Dunstan, Stevens and Armitage.

My thoughts also. He'd stop players such as Gresham, Acres, Billings and Sinclair getting midfield time.parkeysainter wrote:Not worth it at 27-28. We have enough players like him already. Steele, Dunstan, Stevens and Armitage.

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
if Armo lonie and Weller are trarded then Rocky will fit in nicely and i would go after Trengrove and Matera as well otherwise we will still have a war chest full of money then offer Acres a new contract extension with a few more dollars thrown in .Pick 7 and 8 to the draft for speedy midfielders.

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
I went to the wce v bris game in Perth this year and was keen to see how he went (given there was speculation about him even then). No one stood out for Brisbane so I had to check the Record to see what number he was. When I realised which one was Rockliff I was very disappointed. Didn't strike me as a gun and you could see bad vibe written all over him

Geez I hope the club doesn't classify him as a 'gun', or they've lost the plot big-time1965 Saint wrote:I went to the wce v bris game in Perth this year and was keen to see how he went (given there was speculation about him even then). 2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
I think we would be mad not to go after him.
At 28 next season he has at least a couple of good seasons left and we will not have to trade for him! We have the room in the salary cap. He is capable of playing very good games and kicks goals. I think playing with us would give him a new lease on life.
You can't have enough good mid-fielders and as much as I like Koby Stevens he is a class above him.

Re: The Official Tom Rockcliff Rumour Thread
I have also come to this realisation. If we were looking primed to be in the running for a flag next year, it would seem logical to pursue Rockcliff, but I think we're far better to be looking for more long-term acquisitions at this stage.howlinwolf wrote:Impatient Sainter wrote:Too much like Armitage and too old - no thanks.

Why not keep Armo !
I think there's just as much there in the bank as Rockliff.
He's not the one to chuck a bucket of money at.

If Armo's body is shot we aren't going to be able to trade him. He's contracted for next year so we may as well see what we get from him. Anything is a bonus.Bernard Shakey wrote:Armo's body is shot.howlinwolf wrote:Why not keep Armo !

I would have thought Rockliff would be around the 600k mark ?
I'd prefer a younger player for that or go to the draft.

Hasn't he played his whole career for a Loser club?
He doesn't know how to win and play in winning sides.

Rocky is a gun, had some injury problems this year but would be an awesome addition to our midfield.
