Goddard to CHF
I think we need to seriously revamp our greatest weaknesses - being forward line and midfield.
I think we need to start trying something new.
Bruce at FF or CHF is not working as it did 2 years ago.
We need to try new things - Goddard is an Option, Carlisle also.
Or we need to trade for one. Lever to CHB for Carlisle at CHF or vice versa.
We don't have any players I believe that would have any clubs trembling at the prospect of playing us in either our forward line or midfield. We have a lot of players that we like and are serviceable but I could never imagine doing a victory lap in a premiership team.
We have a lot of trade bait to put out there.

Re: Goddard to CHF
There are a few suggestions recently to play Carlisle forward. If my rusty memory serves me right, I seem to recall that one of his complaints against the Bombers was that he was forced to play forward against his preference for the back line. I stand to be corrected.

Re: Goddard to CHF
It would make such a massive difference if Paddy and Goddard have a good pre season and come good in 2018. Fingers and nuts crossed.

100% correct, much prefers playing back and i believe in recruitment he was told he would primarily be played as a back.santazzi wrote:There are a few suggestions recently to play Carlisle forward. Regarding Goddard just getting him playing 10 consecutive games be that VFL/AFL or VFL i think should be the first aim. We need him as a back as Brown probably has 3 years left

Re: Goddard to CHF
Gaining N. Brown came completely out of nowhere too and it was a wise move for basically nothing to give depth and strength to the backline. Did he miss a game?
Saints could do the same this year with an u/k older player perhaps for the backline.

Re: Goddard to CHF
This idea crossed my mind the other day. We were able to turn Bruce from being a defender into a forward, so this might be worth a shot.
That said, I'm still hopeful of Paddy coming good. He has displayed he possess plenty of skill, it's just a matter of keeping him on the field.

Then stick White or Rice in that Savage/joey role.Saint_J wrote:for me weller out! of the forward line Savage in for a few weeks want to see what he can do up there in wellers role.
Are then any vacancies on the match committee? If not there bloody should be because we're smokin' here!

Re: Goddard to CHF
Goddard in his pre-Stkilda years played at both ends of the ground and in the draft reviews was touted as someone that ould play either end.
"I just don't think there's not that many kids at his size who can play centre half-back but also go forward as well,"

Hughey to CHF?
I say yes! Can mark. Can kick. But isn't overly nimble.
So CHF sounds good to me. Happy for some cameos at CHB if we need to move Snowy forward.

Goddard looks incredibly slow like Paddy.
I've given up on both of them as options.
Carlisle would be awesome as a FF

If only Carlisle could do the team thing and play where told rather than only playing where he wants to. Smells of tail wagging the dog - again.saintspremiers wrote:Goddard looks incredibly slow like Paddy.

So personally heard him say that he doesn't want to play in the forward line to make that assertion?Jacks Back wrote:If only Carlisle could do the team thing and play where told rather than only playing where he wants to. I think you'll find that Carlisle cracked it over being played ruck/forward.minneapolis wrote:Taz,santazzi wrote:There are a few suggestions recently to play Carlisle forward. Regardless, Carlisle is our best defender, his reading of the play and intercept marking is second to none. Why would you want to move him?

Re: Goddard to CHF
We need him up back for when Brown retires plus for what I have seen he may not make the team for a while. He is pretty slow and a big turning circle so he should focus on his current postion

Re: Goddard to CHF
Best defender? He doesn't defend at all. Some two game no-hoper never heard of player kicked 5 on him last week. He can cut a kick off by taking a mark but he can't really play on anyone. Gets pushed aside a little too easy in marking contests for my liking when he has to jostle.The_President wrote:I think you'll find that Carlisle cracked it over being played ruck/forward.minneapolis wrote:Taz,santazzi wrote:There are a few suggestions recently to play Carlisle forward. Re: Goddard to CHF
Agree that Carlisle needs to improve the defensive side of his game. It seems he does get caught ball watching and has no awareness as to where his opponent is in marking contests.
Goddard needs to get back playing footy at an AFL level before he is played at CHF. He may be able to play there but all his grooming has been to play a key defensive role.
If Goddard can hold down CHB it would allow Richo to roll Carlisle forward, a better result IMO.
