We need the speed of Wright and Webster back as quickly as possible.
Play all of Bruce, McClunken and Membrey with Roo on wing.

Re: Vent your spleen
Longer to be dropped - I don't care if Gilbert rucks the whole day
Paddy to stay - kick it to his advantage - but we need another reliable forward so that the 21 gamer does not get the #1 defender AND double teamed.
Forget about flat hands - mark the thing - if you miss the mark - let the smalls deal with it - but I am sick and tired of once great markers just being used to bring the ball to ground!
Richo - FFS - get the boys going or get out - we have better talent than we are showing!
Stop the handpassing behind or at the feet of the running players - make it a team rule that if you hand pass to where the player should be and if he is not - it is the receivers fault.
DO NOT PLAY ON AT EVERY CHANCE - look for the best option. Maybe Longer has been told not to kick but that handpass was diabolical - if he had taken a few steps back maybe something would have opened up.
I know that Saints Football is about the press - but it makes me anticipate the opposition streaming out of the 50 and sling-shotting forward every time we lose possession of the ball even in our 50.
IDK - fix it - we are not as bad as we have shown the past 2 weeks (I hope)
Or tell us in some secret communication that we are in fact tanking - because that is what I am hoping is happening - it is the only explanation.

Re: Vent your spleen
It's hard to see us making finals this year as we seem to have too many players who have gone backwards.
It's also a pretty tough draw going home with both Adelaide teams, Freo and Sydney away.
At present we wouldn't start favourites to beat Essendon or North.

Re: Vent your spleen
Has richo a plan b ?
We've lost the last 8 quarters now .
We have shite loads of possessions but run in circles and eventually turn it over . A forward line that last year looked like it had real potential now is one of the worst in the league.
Hopefully the bye will change our luck
But a smashing v the crows in 2 weeks will tell me that richo will never be able to get the side into a gf

Agreed, Loris. Our problems started at selection. I know he's been out of form, but he always gives a contest and with Roo out, we looked badly undermanned up there. Let's face it, he wouldn't have done worse than the incumbents.loris wrote:Baaroose why wasn't he playing when Roo couldn't play???

Not pleasing.
So many players seem to have gone significantly backwards. Weller, Membrey, Bruce for a start. WTF is going on at the club?

They need to play like they arent going to make finals.
Take off expectation.
Go out there and do your job.
Come back Jimmy we need you.
Show some good players the money at season end

Re: Vent your spleen
Every Club has players on their List who are AFL quality, some who have the potential to achieve that level and some foot soldiers who are excellent Club men.
The side selected today consisted of just too many foot soldiers and the result was as anticipated.
The foot soldiers are :- Weller, Brown, Geary, Longer, Minchington, Savage and Sinclair, players who do not have what it takes to feature in BOG considerations, winning media and/or Brownlow votes for their performances on any given day.
We simply can not afford this number of foot soldiers.
One or two, yes. Maybe 3 at a pinch.
But not a third of the side.
Then there is structure, with only one KPP forward depreciating from the danger Membrey is in the side to create as the 3rd option in attack, looking for separation and a mismatch.
Such selection policy consigns Membrey to foot soldier status.
I am not sure what is going on with selection, but we are being let down.
Yes, we are missing Riewoldt, Armitage and Hickey from our AFL quality list, plus the potential of Webster and Freeman but the assessment is that we just do not have the ability to replace them hence we continue to go back to the likes of Minchington, Savage and Sinclair who, if they were of AFL quality would now be automatic selections at AFL level this many years into their AFL List careers.
This concern, to me, is confirmed by the Captaincy of our Club being with a foot soldier who, no doubt, is a very, very good Club man.
Leaders lead from the front.
When the chips are down, they lead with a BOG effort which influences the result of the game.
No matter the sport - or the endeavor.
So that is my venting of the spleen.
We need to aspire, not just reward.

Re: Vent your spleen
What we are dishing up at the moment is bordering on farcical. This Kamikaze handballing that we've decided to adopt the last month could be the dumbest thing I've seen in football. Either that or the way we bring the ball into the forward line, one of the two -dumb and dumber. If we had Lockett Loewe and carey in there we'd only be marginally better. It has to be the worst forward style of play in the modern era.
Richo is a great motivator I have no doubt, that's seen in our tackling, but gee whiz the questions marks are there after we have been exposed the last few weeks.
Secondly,if the umpiring department refuse to pay holding the ball/incorrect disposal like they did today, then we might as well not even tackle. That was the worst umpiring performance in adjudicating that rule of all time today. Just don't tackle anymore, pointless

Happy there's bye next round after today's debacle. A good time for the team to go back to the drawing board, reset and recharge their batteries.

No plan b.
Paddy needs support either from Carlisle or Bruce or Roo. He can't manage the fwd line alone end of story.

Re: Vent your spleen
The games cooked as a spectacle without some sort of zone restrictions now. High intensity tackling and forward presses have made the game void of a spectacle
FF/FB shouldn't be allowed to leave the forward 60.

I'd argue that the GF last year was the worst! Closely followed by the Prelim!jonesy wrote:
