Observations
I was sitting two rows behind the interchange so thought I'd pass on some observations.
1. The boys we're coming off spent each and every rotation. Hunched over. Comparing that to Geelong who looked a lot fitter coming off.
2. Longer tried his heart out but looked a little unfit and struggled whenever he came off but that is understandable.
3. Carlisle doesn't have the best body language. Came to the bench half way through the last QTR yelling at an official of some sort? Came to the bench and smacked it fairly hard.
4. Billings' confidence looks completely shot. Trying but not doing enough at the moment.
5. Dunstan doing a lot of the hard stuff but needs to get more of it.
6. Acres looked to spend a fair bit of time on the pine and was on the phone to Richo (you'd think) each time he came to the bench.
7. Mav sore. Very sore. Not sure why he is playing at the moment. Bring in Stevens.
Not much but thought I'd pass along nonetheless. Not sure why I feel so flat at the moment. The annoying thing is I think a lot of us knew how it would play out after 3 QTR time and unfortunately it happened. Wife had to remind me a few times tonight that 'its just a game' of course but I can't help it.
We need some serious talent at the end of the year. 2x first rounders on premium midfielders and try and land another free agent mid. Don't want to trade out a first rounder if we can get them using only money. Would be more than happy with Rocky FA and go to the draft.
The next two weeks worry me.

Don't all players do the hard stuff
All are expected to Block, Tackle, Chase, Spoil, Cover, Fold, Crack in
It's not just the role of a few
Players also have to get a kick also

Re: Observations
Mav was sore and only a 50/50 chance.
Did the coaches have so little respect for the Cats that they would play a bloke who was so/so?
Shoulda brought in Koby.
The exhaustion is due to this "pressure" game that AR is such a fan of.
Run till you're buggered, and the oppo just runs over the top in the last quarter.
Unless they're ahead by 6 goals at the last change, they get overrun.
Next 2 games will be losses, for sure.

Enjoyed this post. Thanks for it all.
Carlisle must have been when he was wrestling w cockatoo. Prior to that c**k was mouthing off to Riewoldt.
Enjoyed Carlisle cracking in.
Mavs been out of form the last couple... got a niggle? Performance def has been down.
Re: Observations
What was wrong with Mavs game
Didn't hit the scoreboard?
Didn't find the ball??
No defensive pressure???
1.1
19 pos
4 tackles
Not bad for a HF
His opponents were good offensively though... but Mav played ok

Re: Observations
Sounds to me like the lad knew we had let this one get by (which we had) and that he hates losing. Can't see anything wrong with that. He has looked quite resolute in defense so far this season.stkmo wrote:Carlisle doesn't have the best body language. Put that into context
Gresham and Long
0.1 and 0.1
11pos & 6 pos
2t and 1t
Mav played a bit better than those two

I think if Stevens didn't cop a nasty knock in the VFL he would've come in.

If Koby didn't get kinghit, could he play another game a day later?stkmo wrote:Mav played well but is very sore and nearly missed today.BigMart wrote:Put that into context

Re: Observations
Yes, I've been wondering about fitness, given we've looked buggered in a number of games (every one except the Collingwood game really)...I'm sure just about everyone got a full pre-season in this year, what gives? We're exerting manic defensive pressure in the backline, and our disposal coming out of defence has been so wobbly at times that we're expending twice the amount of energy mopping up our own mistakes!
Mav played very well, so I guess he validated the selection.
Loved Carlisle getting stuck into Cockh**dtoo, the lippy prick.

Good point. For some reason I thought the VFL game was last week.WellardSaint wrote:If Koby didn't get kinghit, could he play another game a day later?stkmo wrote:Mav played well but is very sore and nearly missed today.BigMart wrote:Put that into context

Re: Observations
Gresh just had a dirty day, just about every little bit of Gresh magic turned to crap...I forgive him (although that handball directly to a Cat's forward was hard to bare).
Re: Observations
I was bagging them... I was suggesting MAV played alright comparatively
Calm down a bit, if I said someone was quiet... you'd think I have written them off in their careers
Long looks good
Gresham obviously looks good, although isn't the star suggested (yet)

Re: Observations
I just think that "not being the worst" isn't really good enough for a senior player in the leadership group…BigMart wrote:I was suggesting MAV played alright comparatively
Minch was better and he isn't even generally preferred in the side.
Re: Observations
Minch had a good game, he's a fairly good player. How good does a player have to be to be in the leadership group?
Leadership and ability aren't necessarily correlated are they?
As long as he can hold a spot, he's in... if he averaged a goal per game, 19pos and 4t for the year... would you be happy with that?

Loved the passion I saw from Jake. It gets damn frustrating when your forwards are missing easy shots and when your mids are getting carved up.
Carlisle and N Brown are doing their jobs as is Gears and Robbo.

Re: Observations
Nathan Brown has been outstanding. What an upgrade on Delaney.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Think Mav has been disappointing so far this year, always going for the shot at goal when there have been better options. Was probably his best match for the year tbh
Gresh had a bit of nightmare, easily his worst game so far. Nothing he tried worked. They will happen, just need to move on to next week
