Lachie Weller to us?
Just heard the following from someone ITK that I trust. Longer to Dorks. Hill to shockers. Weller to us, that is. That is all. Discuss.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

May involve a swap of draft picks. I'd like to think it was possible. Would be just what we need and would be in line with what I've heard about Longer.

More likely Longer to GWS for Steele plus an exchange of draft picks.

A while ago, I was shopping around for a better car than my old clunker. Did all my sums, worked out how much I could borrow,White Winmar wrote:Just heard the following from someone ITK that I trust. Longer to Dorks. Hill to shockers. Weller to us, that is. That is all. Discuss.
and my lady friend found a lovely black Alfa Romeo 147 on the net. Went to the dealer, took it for a long test drive, loved it...had sunroof, that Alfa handling and engine note, what's not to love?
But I ummed and ahhd, went back 3 days later, another test drive...thought some more...then somebody else bought it.
What if?
This trade is still in the initial stages, like my Alfa. May not get done. Or maybe will.

Longer for Weller? Cant be that. Our pick 10 must be involved.White Winmar wrote:Just heard the following from someone ITK that I trust. Longer to Dorks. Hill to shockers. Weller to us, that is. That is all. Discuss.
Maybe we get Steele as well.

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
agreed.. we would need to give 10 for Weller and get back freo 2nd rounder for Longer.... otherwise it is too much in our favour ..Con Gorozidis wrote:Longer for Weller? Cant be that. Which is not saying WW is wrong... those 3 players would move in those directions...
We would then have the Freo 2nd rounder for Steele....

If Longer is involved, could this be considered another chapter in the legendary Devonport-to-Carlton trade?

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
Weller for number 10... I think we're giving up to much!
Look at it this way, freo might rate hill highly and they're giving up weller for hill. Plus if Hawks need another ruck, its longer for hill.
I feel this could work.
And then Ross feels so bad he left us he swaps their first pick for ours lol

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
I forgot about Hill. If Freo get Hill and Bennell comes back then maybe Weller is surplus. They may well be willing to part ways.
You would think Freo number 1 priority will be fixing that fwd line. It was terrible this year. Without Pav it will be disastrous.

So we end up with Steele and Weller for Billy and an exchange of draft picks?saynta wrote:More likely Longer to GWS for Steele plus an exchange of draft picks.

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
Firstly I would not be looking to trade Longer.
I just do not think Pierce or Holmes are the answers given we are looking at finals football in 2017 - and I happen to think that Hickey and Longer can compliment each other in the same 22.
That said, I have some recall that Hawthorn were looking at Longer until they acquired McEvoy - so we got the younger ruck with potential and they got someone who had not only fallen behind Hickey but would not have been in the age profile for a side commencing its challenge in 2017.
So Hawthorn have intel on Longer.

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
I don't know how Billy and Tom can play regularly in the same side. Lewis Pierce seems to have (haven't seen him play, so is hearsay) more currency around the ground or as a forward target than Billy and is developing his rucking skills. Billy is 18 months older than Lewis, so Lewis who is 22 in November is still very young for a ruckman. To the top wrote:Firstly I would not be looking to trade Longer.

I would prefer not to trade Billy at this point. Would prefer to wait on the development of Pierce for another year and also the development of Billy. Still only 23 and we know big guys fulfil their potential a little later.
Top ten draft pick, captain of Vic Metro if I remember correctly, 202cm. They don't grow on trees.
I reckon Jason Holmes is far more expendable - ugly word I know - than Billy. Love his leap and effort but his lack of presence around the ground means he's contributed SFA away from stoppages.
But if Billy has currency and we can pull a high quality mid in exchange, then well worth weighing up the possibility of trading given Hickey's evolution and Pierce's potential. Some people with an eye for ruckmen think Lewis is going to be better than Tom.
If the rumour has legs and we can get Lachie Weller in exchange for Billy and manage to keep our first rounder, then surely that's a yes.
If that does come to pass, it seems we are a ruck academy for other top teams. McEvoy, Stanley, Longer.......

I can assure you Freo will never trade Weller.
He's worth far more than a top 10 pick and is an integral part of Ross's rebuild

Would love it if this happened. Having both the Weller brothers would be a massive coup.

Been told that Lachie already spends a bit of time in Melboune and is very close mates with our HG.

Re: Lachie Weller to us?
The mighty Hawks can play Ceglar and Big Boy both in the one side. Who knows? Maybe by 2018 if we have a big improvement overall in our midfield and key position stocks we may also have the luxury of playing Billy & Hickey in the same side.

ok thanks for the assurancelintonstreet wrote:I can assure you Freo will never trade Weller.

Can you also inform us how Freo will keep pick 3 so they get local prodegy SPS, who they want, trade in Bradley Hill, and trade in McCarthy, when they also do not have a 2016 2nd rounder (used last year on Bennell)
they just may have to give up something... and Chris Mayne and Zac Clarke wont be enough
