Collingwood players tested positive
just heard on the tv that 11 players had hair samples testing positive...watch this space. I'll bet they were on something during the 2nd GF against us. If it is proven they are cheating now..then it's highly probable they were cheating then.

A QUARTER of Collingwood’s playing list recorded positive tests to illicit drugs over summer.
The bombshell revelation is evidence the AFL and its 18 clubs are losing the fight against the use of illicit substances.
The Herald Sun has confirmed up to 11 Magpies players had tested positive to drugs over the off-season, despite two teammates — Josh Thomas and Lachie Keeffe — being rubbed out for two seasons after being caught with illicit drugs in their systems.
But the Pies — who will face Sydney on Saturday night — are not the only club with alarming hair-testing results.
Industry sources said there was at least two other clubs with higher readings than Collingwood and several clubs in the vicinity of Magpies’ results.
The AFL, Collingwood and the other clubs could not discuss the revelation this evening because of a confidentiality agreement struck between the AFL and the players.

Only named Pies. But indicated 3 clubs with substantial players and implied more clubs with less.
Plus I have a feeling it is "recreational" drugs rather than "performancing enhancing".

All clubs would have them... Drugs are rife in the AFL/NRL

It is definitely recreational drugs.
It is why Nick Maxwell spoke out about it this week.

Re: Collingwood players tested positive
I believe it was in the 2nd GF six players tested High levels of human growth hormones, similar to the Chinese swimmers. The Fireman wrote:just heard on the tv that 11 players had hair samples testing positive...watch this space. The problem is that human growth hormones occur naturally in the body so very difficult to prove tampering.
But at the same time for the pies to get to these level of human growth hormones (the amount of ) was questionable at the very least.
Time is also running out for the tests to be re-evaluated as it something like a 6-7 years or forget it. If it cant be proved in that period it cant be proved at all, with all blood samples sent to the scrap yard .
Either way we wont get a flag out of it and nor would we want one, justification would be that they were stripped of it and publicly named and shamed.
Still its a hard call and they are clear of any wrong doing. Lets hope they won it honesty

It was reported this week that all teams recorded positive results and some more than Collingwood.

Re: Collingwood players tested positive
Come on. None of this shoosh, shoosh, don't tell anyone until three strikes or two or whatever.
KB had a good idea (imho) for once when he said ban any player that is caught using illicit drugs for 6 weeks as a first offence, 12 weeks for a second and then a season for a third and subsequent offences. And all with no pay during the relevant period.
Surely that should weed out the d*ckheads for them to toe the line otherwise it's just all smoke and mirrors and $100 bills.

Sorry but the terms are not mutually exclusive.
The drugs are used for recreation and are used illegally.
Though I would add that it is not what I would do for recreation.

Odds are that at least one St Kilda player, and I don't mean Carlisle, would be on the list.
Carlisle was just the one to send video of it to guys that were not really mates.

Re: Collingwood players tested positive
Every time Pert stands on his soapbox and bellows about drugs in football, i always think there is an issue at Collingwood, that he can't openly admit, so he generalises.
May well be the case if there is any truth in these stories.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

But apparently you're only cheating if you get caught.

Re: Collingwood players tested positive
The problem is not that the players are taking so-called recreational drugs, but they may be taking these drugs to mask detection of performance enhancing drugs.

Re: Collingwood players tested positive
Yes Wayne42, like you I thought 'here we go again' when Pert came out about 2 weeks ago, saying drugs was still a problem in the AFL. I thought it's just a matter of time, before it came out that Collingwood would be mentioned. Then my suspicions were heightened when Maxwell came out, parroting the same problems.Wayne42 wrote:Every time Pert stands on his soapbox and bellows about drugs in football, i always think there is an issue at Collingwood, that he can't openly admit, so he generalises.

So no surprise when up pops Collingwood team re positive testing. They sure get tipped off early to get their PR machine cranked up and ready to go. Eddie trying to bluff, first he heard of it was yesterday
Let's hope Saints are only in the minority with our players. Carlilse is enough to deal with this year.

Pert would only have first hand knowledge of what the situation is at Collingwood. When he talks you could safely assume he's talking about the Pies.loris wrote:Yes Wayne42, like you I thought 'here we go again' when Pert came out about 2 weeks ago, saying drugs was still a problem in the AFL. It was also mentioned that there were other clubs with as many or more positive results. Hope the Saints weren't one but you don't know.
