Re: anxious wait
I read it the other week that the Saints and his management had just opened up negotiations for renewing his contract. Bruce has said its with the club and his management at the moment and he sees 'no rush'.
Read in that what we may eh?
No panic just yet......... fingers crossed tho!

Re: anxious wait
Go away Crows. We made Bruce. He was a crappy defender before our stroke of genius to make him a forward. This is why we have to be careful with our cap like chucking a mill a year at JOM. As our young guys have break out years the big offers are going to come in and we have to at least go close to matching them to keep them. With this new professional era we are in, there is going to be a lot more player movement. They'll come after our young guns like we've gone after theirs. We want to keep a broad as list of talent as we can for depth. Depth wins you flags. If BRucey has another strong start to the year then he deserves to be paid well.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Huge offer from Adelaide

Re: anxious wait
When does he become a FA?
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: anxious wait
Would be devastated if he left. Such a large piece of our future.
Not going to read into it though, it could be as simple as him thinking he can prove he is worth big bucks when he backs up last years performance and proves it was no fluke.

Re: anxious wait
When you don't have a long track record, you're only good as your last season.
If he has an average season, gets injured or whatever he's asking price will be worth less and outside offers will probably dry up.

Re: anxious wait
Hmmm. That worries me a little bit. Why say "At this stage"? Just a little bit of a get out if he is entertaining other offers. Can't blame him for leveraging his break out year for a good deal. Hope its nothing more than that."I think my manager and the club are in talks at the moment. I’m obviously happy at the Saints but I don’t think we’re in a massive rush," Bruce said on Monday.
"At this stage, [I’m] pretty happy."

Re: anxious wait
I think he'll come around soon enough. Couldn't imagine why he'd want to play somewhere else. Seems as happy as Larry with the Saints. Anyway, he still has to follow up on his form from last year.

Re: anxious wait
If his form is anything like his first half of last season his contract will be worth plenty. To be honest though his second half of last year was a bit disappointing. Chalk and cheese really. Not sure if he got ahead of himself or other clubs paid more attention to him and worked him out a bit. Hopefully he brings his early season form into this year. Just about my favourite player atm. Only went to one game last year and that was round one. His marking was amazing.

Interesting to see how he combats that this season.8856brother wrote:If his form is anything like his first half of last season his contract will be worth plenty. In a worst case scenario, if Josh wasto leave at the end of the year, what would we get for him?

Re: anxious wait
Not a FA so they'd have to trade. Depends how he plays this year but potentially a 1st round pick.borderbarry wrote:In a worst case scenario, if Josh wasto leave at the end of the year, what would we get for him?
I cant believe he would leave. We helped turn his career around and we have plenty of $ in our cap and plenty of game time opportunity.
We are also in the middle of moving training venue to Moorabbin making it an easy commute to wherever he lives (Sth Melbourne?).

Re: anxious wait
This could work out okay for us. If he doesn't set the world on fire this season we won't have to pay too much. He's potentially a gun forward but the onus is on him to prove it.
Re: anxious wait
The way i see it is, his manager trying to up his contract which is fair enough if he can back it up. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't a saint next year, unless of course he gets ridiculous offers elsewhere, but he will still have to be traded, 50 goal a year player. 2 first rounders pleaseCon Gorozidis wrote:Not a FA so they'd have to trade. Based on Carlisle we are no hope of 2 first rounders. Probably be a very similar trade IMO. No idea if he will stay or go but putting off talks make it a 50/50 proposition.
Re: anxious wait
Yeah agree but how long can we hold out on a trade? Opening trade we want 2 first rounders or bust. He can't just walk there. Class forwards are a priority for most clubs and if he resigns we better lock him in, hard to believe its been left for so long
