Actually, Tom Lee had the ankles done when he did so that he could do as much pre-season as possible. If you listen, this was filmed last week and the only real injury is Geary, and Longer and Membrey are in full training this week and Freeman is working on strength and agility, in other words, they have him on a modified program due to his history.

according to AFL.com

St Kilda
Midfield recruit Nathan Freeman has been managed since crossing from Collingwood, with his recurrent hamstring problems being monitored closely by the Saints. Right now he is a couple of weeks away from resuming training as he works with the clubs strength and conditioning coaches. There is no timeline for him to play at this stage, with the NAB Challenge now out of reach. Jarryn Geary is recovering from a quad injury but should be available for the NAB Challenge, while Billy Longer and Tim Membrey, who each underwent shoulder surgery at the end of last year, are now in full contact training. After an extended period in rehab, young star Jack Billings has overcome his shin troubles and is eyeing a return to action in the NAB Challenge, albeit on managed minutes.

According to Jack Billings 41 on the track on Friday-

St Kilda father-son recruit Bailey Rice has had the brakes applied on his first pre-season at the Saints after coming down with glandular fever this week.

GM – Football Performance Jamie Cox said the 18-year-old, who did not take part in the first-year’s induction camp in Tasmania last weekend, is expected to miss the next few weeks.

“Bailey had been feeling a little under the weather recently and subsequent tests revealed he has glandular fever,” Cox told saints.com.au on Wednesday.

“Bailey will rest and recuperate over the next few weeks before we progressively begin to reintegrate him back into the football program.

“His health and how he responds to a gradual increase in load will determine when he returns to full training

“Fortunately the only injury we suffered from the intra-club was Dylan Roberton who rolled his ankle,” GM of Football Performance Jamie Cox told saints.com.au on Wednesday.

“It’s turned out okay, he’s likely to only miss this game and be available for NAB Two.

“It’s not the same ankle that he’s had trouble with previously, so we’re hopeful he’ll play NAB Two, if not certainly be available NAB Three.”

Wright underwent surgery to mend the little finger he broke in training last week, but should be available for at least one hit out during the NAB Challenge series.

“He missed the intra-club on Friday after he broke his little finger at training leading up to that game. It’s not too serious,” Cox said.

“He’s had surgery on the finger and all went well so he should be available for NAB Two or NAB Three, which is good news for him because he’s training really well.

“Bailey Rice has glandular fever so we are treating him symptomatically week-by-week,” Cox said.

“We hope that Bailey won’t miss too much football, but we obviously won’t take too many risks, with a first-year player as well. He’s going well, but he’s probably still another couple of weeks away from full training.”

Off-season recruit Nathan Freeman and his troublesome hamstring are progressing strongly, with Cox hopeful the former top-ten draft pick will put his hand up for selection early in the year.

“He’s training really strongly. Hopefully, all going well he’ll be available to play early in the season. He’s rehabbing really well and running really quickly,” Cox said.

Athletic second-year utility Daniel McKenzie was a late omission from the trip to Wangaratta after falling ill late last week.

The 19-year-old has since been diagnosed with glandular fever and is set for an indefinite period on the sidelines as the club takes a cautious approach with his health.

“Dan McKenzie was selected to play at Wangaratta. Unfortunately he didn’t make the trip because he was ill and didn’t get on the bus,” Cox said.

“We’ve subsequently found out that he’s been diagnosed with glandular fever. We’re hoping again that it’s only a mild case and he won’t be too long out of the game.”

Aside from McCartin and McKenzie, Nathan Freeman (hamstring) and Bailey Rice (glandular fever) who are an ongoing proposition, Cox said the club is in a strong position from an injury perspective ahead of the Saints second NAB Challenge fixture next week

hmmmm, well glandular fever can be transmitted by kissing.

Does this mean that D MAc and Bailey Rice are an item ???

This could be taking team bonding a bit too far.

That's not good news for the young lad. Will set him back a bit. This adds to the concern of the news last season that he suffers severe migraines - reason they were so cautious with him over his bouts of concussion last season.

The lad plays at a rather frenetic pace, I notice he never took a backward step in his attack on the ball etc when he did play those few games in the ones.

Hope he can get back to full health and fitness in the not too distant future.

Bummer about McKenzie. He could be out for a bit. Was really interested to see what he could offer this year. Opens up a shot for White now. Hope we've got this glandular fever outbreak isolated now.

rare (unlucky) to have 2 players struck down with glandular fever.

I hope no others are struck down with it.

A bit of a concern.

Was recruiting Freeman a dumb move? Very bad hammies are not a great sign for the future with any footballer, and we have recruited an untried player who a club with the best resources couldn't get right.

Of course. What does the club know

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Won't know until about end of next year. This year is just about getting him up and going as a footy player even if he plays reserves. His junior highlights looked mouth watering - fast, crisp disposal, good decision making, hitting targets. I actually expect him to have another hammy twinge or tweak or twerk or tightness as some point this year. Its the nature of his beast presently.

Spoke with him this evening at the player sponsorship event and he is ready to play rd 1 either AFL or VFL. Hamstring is good. He is confident he will be ok.

Collingwood wanted him and so did we. Thats two AFL clubs that ran all sorts of tests and both believed he had a AFL future.

Sounds good. Did he make any mention of playing a nab game?

Needs to play one at least to be selected in the big league.

The club said he wouldn't play any NAB. Its all well and good him saying he's fine and right to go Rd 1 but really what else is he going to say as he's an eager little beaver after 2 years of not playing. Is he even at full training yet? I just think he needs to do a slow build in the VFL before risking AFL.
