Reserves games were not played as curtain raisers until 1959 (previously they were played on the same day but at another venue). Oddly, baseball games were played before VFL (as it was then) games for a period of time. The last reserves (Victorian State Football League) games were played in 1999, although it seems longer ago than that. The Saints VFL (partial reserves) team is scheduled to reappear in 2017.
