While you do need to cut the umpires some slack I got to say it was the worst umpiring I have seen for some time. Some of the frees to west coast particularly in the first quarter were mystifying aas were the lack of frees to us. I think one of the problems is that we seem to get the junior/poor umpires each week.

Junior..... more like putting up the visually impaired ones.

They must be on the take or that is just awful awful work. I think I would prefer those morons to be corrupt than think we paid him money to do that in an impartial way.

The free kick against Bruce when he was on the long lead and got pushed under the ball...I think the ump paid shepparding, I have never seen a free like that in the 43 years I've been watching the game, just unbelievable

It seemed like there were two completely different standards operating. They got the free for the lightest of touch - whereas they were allowed to pole-axe us repeatedly no problems.

I think Jimmys one was his nose not ear and sent off blood rule and no fifty..........and in I think the last qtr one ump says play on and another gives a free to WC when it should have been a mark to us in the first place.


Like someone else wrote it might of change the result in the game but it does spoil the match ...the game shouldn`t be about the umps but it is becoming so

I asked the same question but apparently Bruce was indeed payed the free kick but then it was reversed for a minor runner infraction

The one i was really was speechless over was McKenzie's tackle near the boundary on the wing being called high when it was the most perfect tackle you would ever see - luckily the WC player kicked straight to McKenzie on the mark and we got a goal out of it

Reckon we took about 5 marks that werent paid that in any other game this weekend would be paid - crucial times as well when were still in the game

If it was Collingwood getting this treatment, Eddie would be up in arms and things would change. I feel like our club just takes it sometimes. We don't stand up for ourselves or the players! Naitanui was ragdolling Longer in the ruck all day, Bruce was manhandled constantly and yet NOTHING. Our boys laid 86 tackles for the game (which is outstanding) and we didn't get a single holding the ball free kick. Makes me sick.

Must say Fish Lips on 3AW is a decent special comments person. He along with Tim Lane got stuck into the pathetic umpiring and reckoned we got a really raw deal. Even saying that evening it up in the last term was basically tokenism

Grant Thomas complained about the umpiring once just before we played Freo in Perth. Result was 5 gift goals to Freo in the last quarter and around three marks in the forward line not paid to the Saints. Result - Saints lost after the siren in the most blatently corrupt, rigged game I have ever seen (on my TV just before the remote hit it). St Kilda have to win in a five goal ahead effort against any of the League's favourites - just get used to it, I am 52, university educated and have worked out that we are a punching bag and it will never change.

I saw Joey having a few words with an Ump as they were walking off for the half time break - he was not a happy chap (Joey, that is).

Almost every year they are in top three clubs for favourable free kicks differential, and over the decade are miles in front.
(There was a thread on this a couple of years ago and WCE had a cumulative free kick differential of several hundred - miles ahead of second place, whilst we were well in the negative).
Check their free kick tallies - most weeks they get at least 5 more, today it was a lazy 8.
