Can someone please tell me why Spencer didn't play?
Thank you.

In a nutshell. Not fit enough.
Gave him a torrid session Tuesday at training, and didn't recover in time.

P.S. Joey is stuffed for a couple of weeks.

Has he had injury setbacks over the preseason, or is he just coming from a long way back.

Very concerning if, after a full pre season, he's not fit enough for a practice match.

Will Joey be ready for round 1 Tony?

Miss 2 to 3 weeks.
Spencer has had a couple of niggles but just doesn't have any endurance.

I'm starting to worry about our Spencer. This is his third pre-season. These are the sorts of concerns you have in your first. He's way behind in his development. Maybe he's just not built for the game at the elite level.

Thanks Tony.

Is the coach being ridiculous expecting him to be like Roo?
Out of interest how much endurance did Taylor Walker, Jack Riewoldt, Tom Hawkins and Jay Schulz have at age 20? What about Kosi?
I'm tipping not much. Not much at all.
Some people need to be trained up as short burst power athletes. Not everyone is going to play like Roo.

Richo said when quizzed about Spencer White's non-selection for the NAB 1 game against Brisbane that he’s still got some work to do in his game, but he’s heading in the right direction. Take that comment any way you want, but it sounds to me like he's not pulling his weight or lagging behind in his preparation, that's probably why we haven't seen him.

Having said that, he is in the squad to play against the Northern Blues on Sunday at Visy Park.

From memory he missed a fair slice of the first two.

Just sayin'

I wonder if it is related to effort or his breathing condition - he came to us with an issue which was supposedly addressed: does anyone know if he is over this or not?

I remember Tony74 reported a few weeks ago Spencer was working hard in training.
Not sure why he is in the dog house suddenly.
Sounds to me like the coaches are trying to make him something hes not.
If hes not an endurance athlete then lets play to his strengths. How far does Tom Hawkins run?

.

No one is like Roo. But he needs to be able to chase and to be able to make 2 or 3 repeat efforts. And 8bloggs you're not far off the mark.

Missing large chunks of preseasons may point to the problem as well. Maybe he just can't cope with the demands. Just sayin'.

Came to the club with wrist problems and there was surgery(s) involved. Missed a fair bit of time which is probably worse when you've got the asthma thingy as well.

That of course doesn't eliminate the possibility that he can't cope with the demands or he's just not up to it.

Just sayin'

Lockett had asthma, and so did Winmar. But it all depends on the severity of the condition. It's a crappy thing to have, and pretty tough in a sport that requires so much endurance. Hopefully, he can make some real progress with it with the help of the medical staff.

I'm seeing some signs some of the young guys are feeling like they aren't given a chance. Spencer, Lee, Simpkin and a few others aren't getting games and seeing others pass them. I hope we aren't reverse Wattersing the the team. The third and fourth year players by- passed for newer kids who came after Richo arrived.

Its Whites fault. He doesn't train hard enough. Lee was given a chance in the first game and was poor. Simpkin is injured. Nearly everyone who is fit has played. I don't understand what you mean.

I was disappointed not to see Spencer. How fit do you need to be to come on for half a game in any of the three games.

He was only given a one year contract for this year. A telling sign, me thinks. Just sayin'.......

I find it very hard to believe that Spencer has less endurance than Paddy.
