Tipping competitions...and barracking for St Kilda
I am changing my approach to tipping competitions by taking a hard headed approach because I want to win. If I think Carlton will beat the Sainters, then I am tipping Carlton. This is a tipping competition, not a "support" competition. My ticking a little box next to St Kilda doesn't help them win one iota. I would still love them beating Carlton and screwing up my tip. Alas we did not have such philosophical dilemmas when we one nearly every week and tipping and supporting were one in the same.
Do you agree with this approach or do you always tip St Kilda? Who is prepared to call me a sell out?

Last year I automatically tipped against the saints as a rule except in rounds one and two, because my other rules were to always tip against the dees and GWS. I got the chocolates. Fifty two correct tips just out of those rules. It's the way the bookies do it.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

When in doubt, tip the favourite.
Even when you're confident, try and avoid tipping the outsider.
These rules got me 3rd out of 130 2 years ago and with a few less last year about 10th.

And don't forget to tip us against Freo at Etihad. That's a lock!White Winmar wrote:Last year I automatically tipped against the saints as a rule except in rounds one and two, because my other rules were to always tip against the dees and GWS. As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

If we pick the Saints to win 22 times this year you will be wrong at least 19 times IMO. If you tip them to lose 22 times you will only be wrong 3 times. Tip with your head if its for big money, tip with heart if its for bugger all.

Don't like tipping against the Saints. So no longer enter tipping comps.
Don't feel like I'm missing anything.

I always tip against the Saints, it's a tipping comp not a loyalty test. If anyone questions my loyalty, I just show them my 24 membership cards.

Fully understandable Doc, you'd be a good mate for my daughter. I, the wise and hardened Saint of the house, don't mind tipping against the Saints when I think they will get rolled - much to the chagrin of the daughter and everybody else at our local. Works for me, I've finished top 3 the last 6 or 7 years. Not too many Saints supporters in history would have won tipping comps by picking the Saints every week.Dr Spaceman wrote:Don't like tipping against the Saints. So no longer enter tipping comps.

Mind you, I have never bet against my own horse in any race they ever competed in!
