Draft mix? Fwds/Mids/Def
So what combination of players should we select?
If we take McCartin then should we take two mids at 21/22?
Or should we take a mid, and an extra tall Fwd/Ruck (McKenzie), or a tall backman (McDonald).
And what about pick 41, a small fwd running type like Lonie, or who else?
e.g.
Fwd - McCartin
Mid - Neale-Bullen?
Fwd - McKenzie (and we then have a FF and CHF for 10 years combo.)
Small Fwd - Lonie?
Or should we just go McCartin and all mids? Or Petracca and all mids?
What combination should we choose, or just go best available?
Thoughts?

Re: Draft mix? Fwds/Mids/Def
If we draft McCartin, our picks 21 and 22 should either be two midfielders, or one midfielder and one defender.
My prediction:
Fwd - McCartin
Mid - Slider
Mid - D.McKenzie
Small Fwd - Lonie
We don't need R.McKenzie if we draft McCartin.

P. McCartin
D. MacKenzie ( the midfielder, not big forward)
J. Garlett
L. Webb

So a forward, a mid, a small fast guy (Outside mid?) and a medium forward.White Winmar wrote:P. McCartin

Don't we have enough medium forwards?

Re: Draft mix? Fwds/Mids/Def
D McKenzie is starting to appeal as one of our picks at 21 or 22.
By all accounts he finished the TAC Cup season really strong and has the potential to improve further - his write ups are quite impressive - great skills, awareness, good in traffic - Of course it all depends who slides - but I think he would be a very solid pick
2 mids at 21/22 would be great but we do need to consolidate our back area for the future - I don't actually really know what is available re: defenders in this draft apart from Marchbank, Lever, Durdin and McDonald and from the sound of it only McDonald will be available at our pick
Interesting choice they have but I'm going to guess they will go with 2 Mids at 21/22 unless they have a smoky mid in mind for 41 (ie: Cavarra) who someone said we were keen on - and then they might consider a back at 21/22

Webb is a mid who can go forward and kick a goal. Just what we need, I would've thought.HitTheBoundary wrote:So a forward, a mid, a small fast guy (Outside mid?) and a medium forward.White Winmar wrote:P. McCartin

Sounds good. Draftmachine had him as a forward.White Winmar wrote:Webb is a mid who can go forward and kick a goal. Just what we need, I would've thought.HitTheBoundary wrote:So a forward, a mid, a small fast guy (Outside mid?) and a medium forward.White Winmar wrote:P. McCartin

I see Webb as a poor man's Billings. He'll probably start as a half forward, but will eventually end up in the midfield.HitTheBoundary wrote:Sounds good. Re: Draft mix? Fwds/Mids/Def
Petracca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the best available... which is not McCartin... at any pick!
With luck (lots of it) the Cockatoo might slide, Touk or James Rose might be there at 41, and Caleb still there for the PSD.
But objectively, mids and more mids... as long as they can do what Jack Wattshegoodfor can't do... earn a kick.
We have key forwards to look at for another year, and will have the chance to pinch someone else's if needed next year or 2016.
Key backs really only need to be able to limit key the influence of their forwards, a la Delaney, so I wouldn't be spending a high draft pick unless the bloke was an out and out star.

Still going on with pet names. Boring. Not McCartin at any pick? Yep so what happens if we take him?

I'm really hoping that we do call out the 'Pet' name Pluggs (whoops, I mean, Mr P66).plugger66 wrote:Dave McNamara wrote:Petracca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the best available... which is not McCartin... at any pick!

PS: Ok, fair point re McCartin and the 'any' pick thing. Yes, I would possibly look at him for pick 41 with the view of doing a Rhys Stanley-type 'upselling' in a season of two.

Re: Draft mix? Fwds/Mids/Def
one of each...if Fisher and Dempster call it quits, then we have Delaney, GIlbert (with worrying injuries), maybe Bruce (who seems preffered in the fwd line), Roberton or Simkin for the talls...Delaney is the only one there with any real reliability.
with all the talk of mids vs fwds, I reckon our tall defence stocks are sketchy and a bit overlooked

The cracks are starting to appear re the hype on Petracca, lets see where he lands, that will indicate crack size, crack size is always worth considering....Dave McNamara wrote:Petracca!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the best available... which is not McCartin... at any pick!

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I agree. Would be good if someone like Goddard falls through to our picks. Durdin would be handy, but unlikely.fugazi wrote:one of each...if Fisher and Dempster call it quits, then we have Delaney, GIlbert (with worrying injuries), maybe Bruce (who seems preffered in the fwd line), Roberton or Simkin for the talls...Delaney is the only one there with any real reliability.
