Well done Gwilty.
126 games after getting plucked from nowhere as an obscure late pick many years ago is an incredible achievement.
Always a clubman, humble and gave it your all generally.
Go the Fro!

Looked cool and played cool
Never panicked or flustered.
Was a key component of our defence in our best ever defensive team.
Well done Gwilty on a fine career with the Saints!

Wasn't far off being first picked when he did his knee - never really recovered - think it was about his first match when he ran straight through and over the top of a Scott brother - always liked him
Re: Post your tributes to
My favourite player.
I think it was his second game when we played Adelaide in a final at AAMI in the wet and he came out and had something like 18 touches and kicked 2.1 his kicking really stood out in such a slippery night.
Was a beast in 2010 when playing on the third tall and running the ball out.
Was in our best for both Grand Finals.
You could easily argue that he was unfortunate with our lack of key backs and ended up sacrificing his game for the benefit of the team structure.
I'll miss him and certainly hope he gets picked up again

I always wonder if he'd played in the 2009 grand final...
I'm not sure if to have tributes for guys who haven't retired, I reckon Jimmy will continue on somewhere

I think Jimmy deserves to land a contract at an AFL club, but I don't like his chances....then again....if Josh Hunt was able to get another year, Jimmy will manure it inSainterK wrote:I always wonder if he'd played in the 2009 grand final...

Amazing effort to come from a suburban side and then forge a long AFL career. For 2-3 years you were an absolutely terrific AFL player and so so so close to a premiership player. Your efforts for the Sainters will never be forgotten.

Good on you Jimmy. Anyone who's good enough to play for the Saints has my respect. I hope life treats you well going forward.

I was about to post a very similar story.saintjake wrote: I think it was his second game when we played Adelaide in a final at AAMI in the wet and he came out and had something like 18 touches and kicked 2.1 his kicking really stood out in such a slippery night.

We made that trip to Adelaide.
3 things stand out in my memory of one of the great Saints victories. In no particular order:
1. Banger winning that game through sheer force of will.
2. The dude in the Indian headdress rescuing my husband and I outside Footy Park in his mini-bus before we were assaulted by angry feral crow eaters.
3. Jimmy Gwilt.
The absolute surprise packet of the night, at least so far as the Crows were concerned. The Fro came in for Goose, Chips ended up running around in a moon boot, and Adelaide had NFI what to do to stop the great big mobile bloke with the big kick.
Thanks Jimmy for some fantastic memories. You have been a magnificent clubman and worn the guernsey with pride. The reco cruelled your pace, but not your spirit. I will always remember you as a bloke with a beautiful kick, a never give up attitude (notwithstanding the gorillas we continually asked you to play on), and a really great 'do!
All the very best for the future. You will always be welcomed with open arms at our club.
Always loyal
