I need someone to explain the Freo result
We were clearly the worst side before that game and are clearly the worst after that game. Surely Lenny telling everyone he was retiring didnt mean we win by 10 goals against a very good side. Still could be our most amazing victory in my 25 years of following the saints. Maybe beating Carlton in in around 1995 was similar. Anyone care to explain the Freo game?

Easily explained
As part of Ross Lyon's departure from St Kilda a secret deal was done guaranteeing St Kilda wins against Freo in Melbourne for last year and this year.
After what was revealed in court this week you still aren't deluded that everything is above board are you.

Good point … and enjoyed the fun answers - but agree was probably our best win (as a bottom side) since that win over Carlton.

Could the Freo game be proof we are tanking. Didn't David Mundy suggest we were their toughest opponent this year.

Im guessing nothing at all.
Re: I need someone to explain the Freo result
The intensity/tackling/pressure that against Freo was what I expect St.Kilda to do everyweek. But today was non-existent. We have a lot of role bit players who are also very soft going to a contest.
It doesn't help that in today's era they are zones. Not many players know how to defend anymore.

you're a betting guy, so what would I have got back if I'd put a lazy $10K or Saints winning by 50 points or more?plugger66 wrote:HardSaint wrote:out of interest, what was the money on Saints beating Fro by 50 points or over leading into that game?

Re: I need someone to explain the Freo result
If somebody backed a result like that to win even 50 thousand it would have hit the news pretty quick and people would be calling for a Royal commission!

This!!! Proof = Farren Ray kicked two awesome snap goals!! The number of times in the last couple of years that Ray has kicked goals he's needed to kick at important stages in games and missed proved to me (and this is just one example from the freo game, not picking on Farren, he's a GOP) that this truly was all our moons lining up ))saintsrus wrote:They took us too lightly and our moons aligned

I think that game just shows that if one team turns up to play and has 22 contributors for four quarters and the opposition is a few percent off their game anything can happen.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.

They rested a few players and just thought all they had to do was just turn up.
I really hope it costs them a top 4 spot!

Freo played with the intensity of a team that thought all it needed to do to win was turn up.

an brought the same approach last year too
Its been bandied about that we know Lyon's game plan inside out - cant accept that we just depart whatever we're going for and slip into Lyon mode instinctively, but footy's a funny game, teams are a strange thing

No, last year was totally different.HardSaint wrote:an brought the same approach last year too

They rested 10/11 players from their team and had no ral expectations of winning.
They didn't care.
They were already concentrating/planning on the following week's final at Geelong.
This year they (the players) paid us absolutely no respect and were mentally 'switched off'
IMHO od course.
