What did we think about the steak knives today?

Equal top disposals with Roo with 30 each. 93% efficiency.

Since he came back from Sandringham with a 'new role' to play, he has been a revelation
He has speed to burn, kicks beautifully and has football nous.

Thank you Hawthorn.

Has improved out of sight. Hope he can keep up the good work.

I was one of the many who wrote him off early in the season. Good on him for making us eat our words.

Shame? He was rightfully dropped to the seconds for good reason.

And Savage wasn't steak knives. We paid a second round draft pick equivalent.

How do you come to that conclusion? About the second round draft pick.

His speed and link up play is great. Still have concerns over his decision making but he's seems a real confidence player who when he gets his tail up gives great energy and movement

Re the Savage free kick.
On a technicality -
if someone knocks the ball out of your hands
- how is that a tackle?
- and if you didn't get to dispose of it so therefore it is not an incorrect disposal
So what was the free kick actually given for if no tackle has been applied?

Not sure his decision making looks bad. What ever he has discovered in him self he looks amazing. His disposal was excellent and chose the best option most of the night. I remembered him killing us a few times so was very excited by getting him. It took a while to click.

his workrate was my worry. In the eagles match a month back he refused to work off the ball to present. Since then his fitness and running has gone up a step. Decsision making and kicking always there. Needs to step up to the midfield in a years time IMO but well done shane.

Don't think I've seen such a form reversal within a season...he really does look like a new man since coming back from a stint in the twos....and to be honest he didn't even set the world in fire down at Sandi...what a turn up!!!!!

He played in the televised match and took off in the last quarter I remember and he did some runs that made you want to stand up and fist pump. He was looking a class above in skill in that game just took a while for him to realise it.

Great to have a running half back with toe that is great and penetrating kick. He really cut up Freo today.

Seems to have fund his niche on the HBF.

Playing that role he shows how much we missed Grammy at his best. Pace and a thumping kick out of the back, and dangerous around forward 50.

The steak knives have been pretty sharp the last 4 weeks, and I for one couldn't be happier.

He definitely was the steak knives in the that deal, it's a turn up to see the steak knives as a welcome addition...

He is better for the team than McEvoy without considering the more fancied part of the deal.

All this feel good stuff is the exact reason why fan forums aren't relevant, they are biased, based on team performance.

At least the people in charge focus on the bigger picture, most fans can't do it, they ride the see-saw, and post accordingly.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Please remind me, we gave up McEvoy and got Savage and pick 18 or 19 that we useed to get Luke Dunstan or Blake Acres.

Longer & Hickey may be better tap ruckmen than McEvoy, not as good overhead.

Reckon we're ahead on this trade.

We gave up Mcevoy, pick 24 (hartung) pick 59 (ceglar) for savage pick 18 (Dunstan) pick 19 (Acres)
I think it's a win, win

Misleading in that Ceglar was a Hawks rookie and they elevated him. So pick 59 was effectively a nothing pick and even if the Hawks did not have it, they would still have elevated Ceglar with whatever their last pick would have been. They also promoted another rookie. Both would have been elevated without 59, and te Hawks using it for elevating a rookie just confirms that we gave the Hawks nothing in trading it to them.

Our pick after that was the rookie elevation of Curren.

So Hawks in fact gained McEvoy and Hartung. They already had Ceglar who looks like he will go past McEvoy.

Saints gained Dunstan, Acres and Savage.

I think it is heading for a big win for us as we look like gain 3 regular players from it. Hawks may only get one.

If the Hawks do not play in this year's GF then their rolling the dice for McEvoy will come up a bust for them. ie If they had done nothing they would have either had Hartung, or another lower picke player if they preferred them to Hartung.

I absolutely think we got the better of this deal.

Savage has started to really impose himself in the old Aussie/Gram role and using the tools he has to great effect. Dunstan will be an absolute beast for us for years to come. Acres hasn't played much so jury is still out.

I was always a big McEvoy fan but he was always an ok ruckman who could take a mark and that's about it. The game has moved past lumbering types to guys like Hickey and Longer. Both of whom are still under the age where rucks hit their straps.

Thrilled with the outcome of this deal so far
