Re: Troy Menzel
Billings and Menzel would be pretty exciting in the same side! All we need is for MM to make him the sub a couple more times to really annoy him... Can't see him genuinely leaving for us though, unless Carlton is somehow considered north of the border (I guess Finnis never technically mentioned what border)

Re: Troy Menzel
Why would he come to St Kilda other than money. You need more than just one player and it goes against the grain. You wouldnt want Essendon poaching Dunstan or Billings
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Troy Menzel
All good points.
The bonus is that with the No 1 dp we will have the No.1 PSD pick, and while it may not be Menzel, money talks, BS walks. We can attract an out of contract player with the right offer and pick him up in the PSD, as well as trading and the national draft.
So really it is not a bad idea.

Re: Troy Menzel
Really annoying little t**d, too much ego for mine and has not proven himself at this level yet. You'd have to have rocks in your head to offer him $2.5M over 5 years.
Can't believe he got a rising star nomination this week off a game where he racked up the grand tally of 9 disposals (his average for the year incidentally) - there couldn't have been much to choose from this week.

The problem with that is there hasnt been a potential star ever taken in the PSD. Said it many times but clubs dont use it anymore. They make the deal get done before. As someone said he would only be coming for money so do we want him to be our honest paid player?

Absolute gun and would be a steal for 2.5mil over 5 years…
The first couple of years 500K might be over, but the last couple it would be unders.
Carlton will find him a cardboard ambassadorial role no doubt.
The Menzel boys are injury prone though as we know.

Jed Lamb pick 21 in the 2010 draft taken in the PSD only last year. The fact is clubs still use the PSD to strengthen their bargaining power. How do you think we got former pick 8 Billy Longer for pick 25 last year?plugger66 wrote:Bunk_Moreland wrote:All good points.

Re: Troy Menzel
Why wouldn't Carlton re sign him? They baggers love him. Not a chance he won't Hey signed up again IMO. I reckon they'd be most of the way through negotiations by now

Yep and was lamb anywhere near Menzel's standard. No he wasnt. No idea why pick 21 matters. And is fact we got Longer because of what you said. I have actually mentioned facts where as yours is guess work. Just name the last player near the standard of menzel that was taken in the PSD and I mean the standard when they were taken and not if they made it.

But dunstan and billings are contracted and also we can pay more for them than essendon can cos they spent all their money on goddard and hurley.

Re: Troy Menzel
the reason the psd hasnt been used in recent years is because the whole draft has been distorted by gc and gws.
there is no good reason we cant chase a big fish and pay overs in this years psd. No reason at all.
I dare say I reckon we will do it if we can convice someone we have a future.
