I thought Dunstan was due for a rest - he's been at the coalface since the preseason comp. Richo seems reluctant to change winning teams so this was a good time. Great reward for effort from Simpkin, Weller and Longer. And we get to see Blake strut his stuff - exciting times.

They're saying Dunstan has concussion. Great for Weller & Acres, first games for Saints.

A bit disappointed with Bruce dropped and Dunstan and Hickey injured but very happy with a few inclusions, especially Blake!

Agree, last week Bruce had 100% disposal efficiency, thought he was far from their worst. Could understand if it was for Fisher.....

Contratulation to Blake. Really looking forward to see how he goes.

Really glad to see Simpkin in also. I think this bloke is what we need. He has shown some hardness and aggression at times in the past and so I really hope he is committed the new mantra set by the coach.

Sub maybe Savage again - or Saunders? Doubt it would be Hayes or Schneider.....(of those named on I/C)

I really thought Bruce would play, thought he has been great. Confuzzled.

Real shame about Hickey and Dunstan :o

Yeah, I'm surprised about Bruce as well, I thought he was doing all the right things. Always hard to track the one-on-ones as a supporter though - maybe he's been beaten too often.

Excited to see Acres but it doesn't look like the best game for a debut. Wet day, big ground, playing the premier. Hopefully he does enough to get a good few weeks in the side. Should be a game that suits Weller though.

Team may have been selected for a wet track.

We may be a bit of (betting) value at the line.

What did or didn't Josh Bruce do?

I thought he played well enough in a back line that copped it a bit due to being beaten around the ground.

Thoughts?

Yeh I agree with the others that the only reason to swap Bruce for Simpkin is the conditions. Although Simpkin has been pretty good in the VFL.

I used to think Simpkin was a valuable defender, but has he not been picked this year due to niggling injuries,
or is it because the new guys in Bruce & Delaney were doing a better job than he could have done?

Sometimes in the past, Simpkin seemed to be serviceable without being outstanding or a game-saving player
This is just IMHO so don't go bagging me for having an opinion.

Simpkin is a short 191cm, Bruce is 196cm. I think that's probably the point of difference there. No doubt in my mind Simpkin is a better pure footballer at this point but he just isn't quite big enough for AFL.

Pity Hickey is out with a foot injury....would have liked to have seen him and Macca go head to head!!

Stoked with Acres being included.......first up against the Hawks a pretty big assignment for a first gamer, hope the kid plays well.
