Mav Weller
Updated Stat: Mav Weller had 39 disposals, 10 tackles, 7 marks, 3 goals and 181 dream team points for Sandringham on Saturday!!
Thought his performance warranted it's own thread. Fair to say he's knocking the door down to be upgraded for Nathan wright. When you consider he was used as a tagger aswell, those figures are remarkable! Has had 3 outstanding games to start (real) season.

Our future midfield is looking good..
And Acres is not even match fit yer.
On Weller I also love him as he is a brute. You need some guys with real grunt as part of your mix....

I agree. He reminds me a bit of Stephen Powell - tough as nails.stkildathunda wrote:Updated Stat: Mav Weller had 39 disposals, 10 tackles, 7 marks, 3 goals and 181 dream team points for Sandringham on Saturday!!

Re: Mav Weller
Holy crap !! They are some big numbers.
That's what we have lacked in the past (with some exceptions) is guys playing at the next level down putting performances on the field that DEMAND senior selection.
Great to see.

Re: Mav Weller
Not so sure Mav will get the call up just yet. We've got to find space to get Armo back when his knee heels.
Mav won't come in as a pure tagger he'll need to be contributing in either the forward line or the midfield.
Seb probably deserves a full game ATM so HOLD.
But yes it's looking good for Mav long term.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Mav Weller
He was played as a rebound defender at GC because they couldn't fit another mid in their line up. He's not as tall as you would expect and not super quick so probably more suited to a mid field role than running the ball out. He is a very keen type of guy and looks determined to give it everything.
Re: Mav Weller
Yeh I think with Fisher, Gilbo and when fit Wrighty needing to get back in the defence (not to mention Roberton) Mav's best spot may be in the middle and forward.

Re: Mav Weller
Back in 2009/2010 Gold Coast got to pick 12 of the best 17.67 year olds.
These guys being too young for the 2009 national draft.
These 12 kids would have normally been taken taken in 2010 national draft in which Gold Coast then also had first round picks 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13,15.
He played some games with Gold Coast but last season he was delisted by Gold Coast.
St Kilda picked him up with their last active and 2nd round rookie draft pick 18.
Jason Holmes was already earmarked as a St KIlda international rookie and called at pick 31.

Re: Mav Weller
Quite obviously the butcher of Clint (Jones) makes way for a new improved tagger (Weller). It isn't rocket surgery! We have slowly got to remove the butchers from the team and insert some surgeons.PJ wrote:Not so sure Mav will get the call up just yet. We've got to find space to get Armo back when his knee heels.

Re: Mav Weller
With the upmost sensitivity that Armitage has been stuck in hospital but is the difference with Weller that he can play the same role but just accumulate more possessions?
Maybe a better kick and probably a lot faster?
Weller has been impressive!
