AFLPA boss Matt Finnis accepts the job as St Kilda CEO
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

He clearly knows football well and seems to be a good communicator. Not so sure about his commercial credentials though. It sounds as though he may not have been either of our preferred first or second picks, which is a concern I wish him well - we need a good operator for a change. Couldn't do any worse than Netters.
His couple of month's delay in coming on board, isn't a great start - more important things to do beforehand?

Not sure about you but my role has a 90 day notice period. Most important jobs have at least that. I think getting him in the door in less than 60 days would be pretty good.Junction Oval wrote:His couple of month's delay in coming on board, isn't a great start - more important things to do beforehand?

From what i was told he was very much our preferred choice, but they had to nut out $$$$ and timing. apparently he didn't come cheap either but the board where so impressed with him they paid him more in the final years of contract.
All of a sudden we're flushed with cash

I wouldn't have a clue about his business acumen, but that's very much secondary these days. His one big plus is he's from inside the tent. It will come down to his political skills - Priority No 1 - do not lose the spot in the tent.
That's how this game, and so many others, and businesses, function these days.

Goddard's GF performances were certainly those of a Champion.plugger66 wrote:BigMart wrote:Does he realise the big thing he introduced.... Cost us two absolute champions??

the reason he doesn't get that title is because we didn't win those GF's.
The reason we didn't win them is because some other big names got stage fright!

One performance doesnt make you a champion unless you also think Gram was. BJ never won a B&F at our club and neither did Dal. To be a champion IMO its over seasons and he didnt do it at our club. Champion is said far to much. The only champions we have had in the last 10 years IMO are Rooy and Lenny with Milney very close but because of the position he played it was hard to be consistent.

Gram performed in 1 GF
I think if you gave a score out of 10 for each of our recent GF's Goddard's total score would be about 25
Next best would be lucky to get past 18

Lenny may have something to say about that. Anyway I cant have BJ being called a champion. He wasnt a Hayes, Rooy, Harvey, Loewe, Burke or Winmar. He is in the next rung with Dal, Milne, Fisher and even fisher probably has him covered pretty easily. Played as a receiving HB.

You're right Lenny wasn't that far behind but third best over the 3 games was!plugger66 wrote:whiskers3614 wrote:Gram performed in 1 GF

Id say Lenny was in front but that doesnt matter. Im not even sure BJ even ran a place in the B&F.

Re: AFLPA boss Matt Finnis accepts the job as St Kilda CEO
Big presumption here, but I imagine the honorary (unpaid) positions of Prez et al, set the guidelines, direction, culture, etc, in consultation with the CEO and COO, who work full-time on running the show.
CEO+COO would look at the books, projected revenue, etc and pass all the info up to the Board.
Communication, implementation and day to day running the joint.
It's not important for the CEO to have a Saints doona cover and a poster of St Nick on his bedroom wall.
He has to be focussed on doing the best job possible.
I put my faith in the Board and trust that they made the best chioce.

Well our coaches havent seen it that way over about a 9 year period and Fish sometimes actually had a player to play on.

Pretty sure Clark Keating never placed in a B&F either.
I put a pretty high premium on blokes who achieve their PB's on the biggest stage.
I am sure BJ qualifies!
