worst season since 2000
Sorry but I'm calling it now. Going to struggle to win the first 2 games with injuries and suspension taking their toll. Its a long road after that.
Would love to be wrong but at least I am prepared for the worst.
Hopefully we can get another 15-20+ games this year into the likes of Webster, newnes, wright, Saunders, Dunstan and other first to 3rd year players

Re: worst season since 2000
We've won the same number of games as this time in 2000.
We've also won the same number of games as this time in 2009 or 1966.

Agree.... Two most winnable games when we are too depleted to take advantage....
I had us pegged for 5-7

May mean we get pick 1 or 2 rather than 3 or 4 in reality.

Exactly - I'm not sure why people are getting grief just for stating it.
I reckon we will be around this mark too.

If we win less than 3 games and only end up with pick 2 then I'll be pretty pissed off!saintspremiers wrote:Big deal.BigMart wrote:Agree.... Two most winnable games when we are too depleted to take advantage....

Re: worst season since 2000
As footy is run like a business these days, then maybe the old three year rule may apply in the first instance. Run at a loss in the first year of setting up business (don't win many games while putting things in place and building a winning team), break even in the second year(win significantly more games while developing the team further), make a profit in the third year(push for a place in the eight). Beyond that it's all about growing the business to achieve greater success (play finals and win a flag hopefully). I hope Messers Summers, Pelchin and Richardson are truely aligned in their objectives and have a clear time-frame for dragging this club back to finals footy.
We really need the older experienced players to lead by example more than ever, though with Hayes and Montagna out through suspension it's not a great example. In our first match of the season, Reiwoldt, Dempster, Ray, Jones , Armo and Geary (presuming they will be playing) need to make a big statement and show real leadership to the inexperienced. The pressure is right on!

Well dont expect too much and then, you can just sit back and enjoy watching the new kids. Seriously, why post doom and gloom.
Maybe we will win a couple and we can all be happy.
Would rather be us than Essendon

Re: worst season since 2000
I've never liked losing and have never got used to it but the thing I'm really dreading is the flack we'll cop both personally and as a club from anyone and everyone. It's tiring having to defend against the ignorant, lazy slurs that are made against us. I hoped those days were behind us, but it's clear they're not.
Still waiting for closure ... if you get my drift.

This will be our worst season since 2012.
We will DEFINITELY beat the dees and gws at Etihad, they just don't win there ever against us.
With two wins in the bank, we will be competitive for the following three rounds and then beat the lions in Wellington, be competitive again for the next two rounds and beat gold coast at Etihad, just as we did at the end of last season.
It gets tougher to find wins after that, but I have a sneaking suspicion that we can also take down west coast mid-season and footscray near the end of the season at Etihad too!
its time to make a name for yourself like you've never made before!

Are you trying to say we have the same chances as we did in 09 or 66?kosifantutti wrote:We've won the same number of games as this time in 2000.

I'm saying I don't know what will happen but I'll enjoy the ride whether we finish on top or on the bottom or somewhere in between.saintdooley wrote:Are you trying to say we have the same chances as we did in 09 or 66?kosifantutti wrote:We've won the same number of games as this time in 2000.

At this stage we've played zero games, won zero games, lost zero games. Predicting doom and gloom won't help me cope if it happens.

Keep expectations low... There will be some surprises...
I'm looking forward to the season, at the very least to see the youngest Saints team in over a decade grow into our future...

So the TANK begins
Accepting failure is never good, it destroys a culture of competitiveness
I'm yet to see the fruits of tanking
I actually believe it destroyed Melbourne...

Re: worst season since 2000
You can call it whatever you like but our period of sustained success from 2004 to 2010 was launched by being at the bottom of the ladder for a few years in succession, it almost yielded the ultimate prize.BigMart wrote:So the TANK begins

I doubt a poor club like ours can do it any other way. If Melbourne become a formidable side in the next few years then it will be as a direct result of being at the bottom for a few years.

I'm sure we won't be accused of tanking...we don't have a side that will win games..the bookies will tell you that.

Re: worst season since 2000
Yup, I'm expecting us to come dead last with 2 or 3 wins but certainly don't think we've tanked, even with Dal and BJ we'd be bottom 2 for mine.

You used the magic word twice.... If
If my auntie had balls....
I think a cultural change led by two powerful leaders was pretty key also.... An organisation does not succeed on talent alone
Carlton had 3 straight #1picks and a #2 and flogged the leagues best player.... It hasen't gifted them jack

Are you related to another person on here? Couldnt be bothered re reading or even reading your signature. I usually only read people signature if I think they understand footy.
