Not trying to be controversial but we could also be looking to chase our first points against the Lions. I'm expecting Melbourne and GWS to move up the ladder and I expect both those teams will be setting themselves against us this year. We are ripe for the picking unfortunately. New coach, young list blah blah blah...

Im not looking past round 1.

If we lose round 1 (which is very possible) we will be chasing ass from the get-go.

Last year - our season was effectively over after round 1.

If we can win round 1 - hopefully we sell some memberships in the first week or 2.

I think momentum is very important in sport. If we can win the first couple of games and play with confidence then who knows? Pity Montagna is not around for game 1 but I would focus on winning the first 2 games. Lyon said it was a marathon not a sprint because we were focused on September, but our focus needs to be on getting out of the blocks quickly.

We will beat the Crows, go close to beating Wet Toast and go close to beating the Bummers.

I'm predicting we will be 5-0 and the experts can go suck goat nipples

It would be nice to win the first two games and keep this stat alive...

The good thing about a team of youth is that you never know what might happen we could just as easily win 5 games in a row as lose them. I'm hoping a new coach and a few motivated fit older guys might make us a bit more competitive. We missed Gilbert, Lenny, Schnides and Fisher for big chunks of the year. Get all those guys firing and add Savage, Bruce and Delaney and we might go a bit better.

Where did you get that from?

We have started 2-0 four times in the last 10 years and have finished top 4 every time. 2004, 2008 (4th), 2009, 2010.

More importantly, every five years (starting in 2004) we have won at least our first 10 games. We are due.

After the last two years disappointing 1st round losses, if we don't win the first 2 games next year...then I will be absolutely shattered...this doesn't mean I wont support them or not go to games, but it will be a very very long season. West Coast over there, is very possible as we play well in Perth, while Adelaide at home puts our chances right up there. Essendon - not sure hopefully they are all suspended and we win by default :) Brisbane at home - surely a win??? Could make it 6-0. Realistically we should be 3-3 and hopefully our young brigade are flying!! Just hope the guys enjoy playing their footy and give a red hot go, thats what I hope to see.

So you bought that tripe from Summers that our financial performance was down to a couple of poor losses in the first two rounds of last year?

We will have a very hard year regardless of whether we're 0-2, 2-0, 1-1 or draw both of the first two games.

Beno, I remember one year we were 1-5, suffered two terrible ten goal plus thrashings in that time and finished on TOP!

97? I think we were 1-4 before we went 14 and 3 over the rest of the season.

Melbourne (round 1) is 50-50, with us probably marginal favourites as Melbourne are as awful at Etihad as any team going around at the moment.
If we can't beat the Giants (round 2) at Etihad we really are in trouble.
Adelaide (round 4) at Etihad is 50-50, but if Walker is still out, as he is predicted to be, and without Van Berlo, they will be vulnerable in Melbourne.
We could be 3-1 at the end of round 4.

I reckon the Giants will win 8 or 10 games this year, and they have to beat someone, so I wouldn't be counting on that one just yet.

Speculation about where we'll finish, who we'll beat, who'll beat us, etc etc are all a bit of harmless fun, but have absolutely NO impact on what will ACTUALLY occur. This season, I have no false hopes, no expectations about success, I also hold no fears or dreads for the coming season. Life's too short to worry, I'm just going along to see the footy.

Herald Spam is dumb down depressing!

Post: # 1429601Post Megamaguire »

The hun is downright depressing and society undermining in its' dumbing down and hopeless sensationalising stunts.

On a happier note I believe our Sainters certainly have a few wins in them for the first month or so of season 2014.
I thought this on my own and am sort of proud to declare I didn't need that ragof a paper to tell me what to think.

Interesting to note Port chrged out of the blocks last season for 5 wins in a row. Glad AR was up close to witness it and the subsequent 5 losses but ultimately finals and admiration from plenty of neutral observers for the way they turned their bus around.

I know the development over the entire season is what is most important but a few early wins would put a skip in our stride.

GO SAINTS and always read the best quality information/news you can

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
