Re: Greg Baum a saints man
At least he's stopped having that photo of himself (taken from around 25 years ago methinks?) heading up one article, and then another with the grey hair and specs heading up another! Did anyone else notice this in the Sunday Age for a fair while? I was almost going to submit a "separated at birth" to the Pssst" column!

Serious? He's Australia's best sportswriter at the moment. Why are you slapping him?mr six o'clock wrote:Exactlychook23 wrote:a slap in the face actually.

Have to agree. Consistently produces well written and informative pieces. Well ahead of the pack, IMHO. He even managed to sneak the word "onanist" into a recent article. Re: Greg Baum a saints man
Through rose-coloured glasses, I saw hope for the Socceroos at next year's World Cup, and St Kilda in the AFL, and even me on a surfboard, and I heard Rogers speak for all when he said: "This is what dreams are made of."
And I thought I saw Santa.

He's a Collingwood fan.
As a boy, he was surrounded by St Kilda fans during the 1966 grand final victory and felt a contrarian pang of grief for the Magpies. And thus, became a Collingwood supporter.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

He could have said Bulldogs. Their recent record is worse than ours and they have lost SEVEN consecutive preliminary finals.

Re: Greg Baum a saints man
Great, brilliantly written article. And the topic is the reason why you should never sell any team short. If older players such as Roo and Lenny still have the fire in their bellies and are not just turning up every week just because it has become a habit there is no reason why 2014 will not be an exciting ride for all Saints fans!
No need to throw the baby out with the bath water, just rejuvenate as the Aussie cricketers have done. Richo might be our Boof!

Comforting to know he thinks of us as a basketcase, just like the rest of the press.
Couldn't care less of what the media thinks, as I'm certain we'll turn it all around soon enough and win a flag before this decade is out.

Re: Greg Baum a saints man
Well i certainly interpret that it was said with some degree of affection.
'Rose-couloured glasses' , the socceroos (who i am sure he will be cheering on), him on a surfboard (hopeless but something he wants to do) - these are all things he 'hopes' for. Santa is also a positive.

I thought it was a reasonable article, written in a lighthearted tone. I look on the Saints not as a "hopeless case" but rather more of a "hopeFUL case"

Re: Greg Baum a saints man
Silly to suggest we're a hopeless case by anyone. New coach, come off a great trade and draft period and off on the right foot for our rebuild. A couple years and we're quite possibly back in business. Don't be fooled by a lot of the cynicism out there.thejiggingsaint wrote:I look on the Saints not as a "hopeless case" but rather more of a "hopeFUL case"

Re: Greg Baum a saints man
What a patronising comment!
Greg Baum follows Collingwood who won a flag due to a unlucky bounce that gave them a second shot at an exhausted St Kilda.
St Kilda was a powerhouse from 2004 - 2011 and not a basket case like Melb as he implies

I agree with Dazzling Darrel. That period was probably the second best in our history.
