I am currently reading
Black and Proud by M Klugman-which is basicly ana coomapning story to the film - based around the 4 people most involved in the photo of the day- Nicky, Gilbert and the 2 photographers
But is also a small slice of the history of racism in Australia

Cannot wait to see this documentary film. Will also order a copy of the Klugman book. Great stuff!

I feel sort of honoured that I attended that infamous match back in April, 1993.

Wonderful trailer. Will share it with my buddies on Simply Scripts. They are into film stuff. Some US mates will love the sporting angle too.

I'm glad someone believes the Nicky Winmar story worthy of being made into a movie.
That day Nicky raised his guernsey and pointed proudly and defiantly to his own skin was a wonderful day I believe because it helped a lot of people focus on why he responded the way he did. Nicky actually helped some people examine their own attitudes and beliefs and make a positive conclusion as a result. I feel optimistic and relieved that Nicky's action helped a lot of people turn their back on often habitual and unreflective attitudes. Great to see a book finally available (and movie) that speaks to this seismic event in Australian Football and society in general.

I still remember how sweet it was to be @ Collingwood HQ that day and experience a beautifully played St.Kilda victory with Nicky and Gilbert McAdam making significant contributions to the historical impact of the day.
Looking back now I feel very fortunate to have been there to witness the now famous events.
It was in the day when you could jump the fence @ game's end and meet the players which we did.
At the time I was so caught up in the Saints celebration of joy that I only learnt later what had occured with the foul language etc.

Very Proud of Cuz still ! :D

G O S A I N T S ! :D

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

I was also there that day. I stood near the back of the Collingwood cheer squad, off to one side. I was with a few friends and all I can say is that what was being said was horrific. There were 4 of us all supporting St Kilda and we argued and fought with the Collingwood supporters in that area all day. They had what they considered jokes ready to go, one would put out a question, and then another part of the cheer sqaud would come back with the answer, or what they thought was a good pucnhline. Was premeditated and simply abhorrent. Really racist stuff.

I can't tell you how sweet it was to then watch Nicky and Gilbert totally destroy them in a fantastic display of skill, honor and pride!

I've never been involved in anything nearing a physical confrontation at the footy other than that day, where when the siren went we were set upon by angry Collingwood supporters looking to blow off some steam on their way out. Luckily police quickly intervened as it was ugly!

Anyway, so much has changed since, and it is fantastic to see a doco like this being made. After events this year, looks like more still needs to change but hopefully this will prove to be a salient reminder to those who are forgetting, or never learnt in the first place.

Will be eager to watch it when released.

i remember him running out of defence along the curved boundry line.....he handballed the ball between the line and an on coming opponent's feet and regathered the ball on the other side of the player...the ball curved exactly along the line....unbelievable skills nicky possessed......
