Did Choco "choke"?
Just heard from a usually reliable source that Choco may have fallen at the final hurdle. Apparently, there were several aspects of his interview process that raised some doubts in the panel members. If it was his position to lose, then he may just have blown it. The concerns revolved around control issues. I guess the club's not big enough for more than one control freak. Enter, stage left, Alan Richardson.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Did Choco "choke"?
Plenty of reports suggesting that Chocco DEMANDED a 5 Year deal at $PLENTY pa !!
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
Re: Did Choco "choke"?
I believe so?
It's why there is a process?
There is another school of thought though
Place less emphasis on interview ability and more on coaching ability.....
Interviews are like nets practise IMO ..... Someone can look like a world beater (Khawaja) in the nets.. And in the middle they fall in a heap....
Good interviewees don't necessarily become good employees?
But, that being said.... In a professional organisation.... A process must be followed...
So I don't know...

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

It seems this has been Chocos issue that he was simply too demanding with unrealistic contract amounts and length...Eastern wrote:Plenty of reports suggesting that Chocco DEMANDED a 5 Year deal at $PLENTY pa !!

Good on us for being aggressive. Sick of the bitching by richmond and port. If this was any other club but the saints, it would have been touted as an absolute coup.

Re: Did Choco "choke"?
My guess is that he believed that he was the only serious candidate. He therefore pushed pretty hard for a better deal than he is worth.Eastern wrote:Plenty of reports suggesting that Chocco DEMANDED a 5 Year deal at $PLENTY pa !!
Never liked him anyway...
*Allegedly.

Had to know if Choco choked.... or the club did
Control issues worries me - if AR gets the gig cause he's "more controllable" then we have bigger issues

I'm with you Teflon. I want a coach who is a control freak. If Richo is in there to take direction from Pelchan, we might as well have appointed Pelchan coach.Teflon wrote:Had to know if Choco choked.... or the club did

Actually isn't the worst idea. Make him accountable for results.

Agree with tef.Teflon wrote:Had to know if Choco choked.... or the club did

Maybe the club choked because of the huge contract and panicked about a huge payout.
I would of thought 5 years is a good length contract for our new list.
If he was behind Watters in the process, what are they thinking?
Sounds like another Pattsy on the way , god help us !
100 goals in 14 games...Lockett is the key

Re: Did Choco "choke"?
I think the issue with Choco was the 5 year deal.Eastern wrote:Plenty of reports suggesting that Chocco DEMANDED a 5 Year deal at $PLENTY pa !!
Not surprising thats what he was after.
With our list and GWS 2 years off being unbeatable - we cant possibly contend for a flag before 2018.

Re: Did Choco "choke"?
I for one applaud the club if Williams in fact did ask for over and above what we thought his services were worth both contract length and money.
The club obviously refused to be bent over the way Melbourne was with Roos. IMHO even with the AFL paying the bill the Demons are doomed to repeat Blight saga all over again. Well done to all involved for not buying (litterally) into a white knight savior that may turn out to be a total albatross.

Pelchen would be accountable for results just like the coach and just like any other employee.bigcarl wrote:I'm with you Teflon. I want a coach who is a control freak. That is the structure the board has put in place.
Everyone has their roles. Everyone has someone to report to and everyone is accountable.
Stick to your f2cking role, understand the basic protocols and pull your head in. It's not that hard.

Re: Did Choco "choke"?
It's all very strange indeed The problem is, we "the outsiders" do not really know, but the appointment looks a bit odd, from what/how it occurred. You get the feeling that something went wrong somewhere and we fell back to "a safer bet" in Richardson. For the future of the Saints, I just hope that it was not so.
Richardson sounds like a good, professional operator - let's hope so and get behind him for the betterment of the Club
