The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

The ball is squarely in HIS court. What he does with it is up to him !!chook23 wrote:With longer now on list.......Hickey etc
Just where will Rhys play??
Will he be squeezed out now or end of 2014 if he does not come on?
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Re: Rhys Stanley
His value was rubbished by being played out of position. He was starting to show some promise before being made to play as a KPB. It doesn't suit any of his strengths. He should actually be the biggest winner out of ruce and delaney's recruitment.

Re: Rhys Stanley
I actually think Maister offers a bit more than Rhys.
Maister is a workhorse and provides a short term back up for Roo while hopefully LEe and Spencer develop.
Id trade Rhys for a top 40 pick.

I think Rhys for Mellington straight swap could work for both parties.

Well it aint happening so we need to find a spot or either him Longer or Hickey. Cant see how how 2 out of the 3 play in the forward line. Matter of fact it is no hope.

Re: Rhys Stanley
It's now probably in our best interests if 2014 is Riewoldt's last year. Lee and Stanley should both be capable of playing full seasons as KP forwards and White needs to get a few games next year followed by 8-14 in 2015. Throw in the fact that Hickey and Longer will need to spend time forward and we've got Siposs and Markworth who are leading forwards and Roo could be getting in the wayof their development if he lingers too long. Maister is backup and nothing more.

Re: Rhys Stanley
Stanley will now be planted in the forward line in 2014 me thinks. Roo can now teach him how to hone his lead up skills and make no bones about it the time he has spent in defence in 2013 will hold him in good stead. He's a player.

i'm still a believer - only thing that will stop him being a "gun" is if his body lets him down
as all the "experts"(?) always say - "you have to be patient with the big guys"

Where do Hickey and Longer play when not rucking?

Re: Rhys Stanley
Best suited to a forward role. Big and athletic he could cause havoc as a tall forward pocket or use his pace to push up the ground on half forward. I reckon last season gave him some pretty good lessons on how a defender thinks. It may make him a better forward. Needs to do it pretty quick though

Re: Rhys Stanley
this year is make or break for the Stan... hope he comes good... forward / wing think the club see's him as a Roo succession plan but he needs to show something this year.

Re: Rhys Stanley
He got gifted some games last year when we had no other options through injuries. Now with the acquisition of Bruce & Delaney he won't be used as a stop-gap backman. This means he will have to fight to get a game and hopefully this brings out his best form.ShanghaiSaint wrote:this year is make or break for the Stan... hope he comes good... forward / wing think the club see's him as a Roo succession plan but he needs to show something this year.

' the club see's him as a Roo succession'
Roo kicked 67 goals in 2004 - age 21.
Rhys would want to get one hell of a wriggle on to be considered in the same breath as Roo.
I think White is a better bet than Rhys. White needs to get his wrist ok which may take some time but seems far more capable of kicking goals and marking inside 50 than Rhys.

Based on what Con?
Re: Rhys Stanley
Will certainly be an interesting season. I'd say we will see Roo have about 3-4 games off to get his walking frame oiled throughout the season...
But with Lee, Maister, Roo, Longer/Hickey resting forward we would be too tall to run Stanley out of the square as well.
That being said, glad we have forwards who now have to force their selection, rather than being given games for height balance.
