I'm not buying that he is a spud…

Looked very good in the 40 odd minutes today… prob in our best 10 in that time.

I think it would silly to de-list him when we are so short on mids.

Loved his work. I like the way he goes about it. Curren and Ledger have both been worthy seniors.

Agree he looks a far better option than some of the other small forwards we have gone with ! You only had to see the reaction from his team mates to dispel that he is not liked around the club - his team mates love him! Lets hope he can go on and have a strong career ....o

Played really well in the time he got. Ran hard, used the ball well and put his body on the line a few times.

Must be in the 21 next week

thought he had a good qtr and a bit, with limited game time.

defencive side of his game is the concern for me though. watch him off the play and opposition players stream past him, whilst he's stuck in a jog. he's probably conserving energy for his offencive side of the game when he makes a dash

not sure you would get by doing that week in week out, especially if were playing finals

Really liked his game. Makes much more appeal than players like Dennis-Lane and Milera.

Did the world fall in when he was picked? Like many suggested??

I'd say he'd be more ready for seniors than 8-10 on the list..... Judging on seconds form....

Look, I believe he meets the at least two 'standards'

1/ he's earned his spot through performances..
2/ he can find he footy... An innate thing that is hard to teach

Full game next week. Well earned from today's performance. Looks calm and confident with ball in hand.

twenty five per cent game time he accrued 11 disposals and three contested possessions. at one hundred per cent game time that is 44 disposals with 12 contested possessions.

I think Schnieds was the best sub we had this year, in an early round.... He was BOG in the time he was on

Come on Bergholt

To defend his non selection, he was bagged ridiculously......

Even his good performance were down played.... Non effective, butcher, no defensive game, doesn't work hard, unfit, lazy, VFL is crap.... Blah, blah.....

Good on him I say

He was on a hiding to nothing imo

I agree that was all crap because none of us know why he wasn't being selected. But that's different to their being no reason for it.

It's possible that he's a better player now than he was earlier in the year. If Watters is good at player development, then he would have had long conversations with Ledger about things he had to work on. Selecting him before the penny had dropped on those things would have been doing him a disservice, because he would have been able to kid himself that they weren't actually necessary.

I reckon Watters was on a hiding to nothing. If Ledger improved and became a player then he'd be bagged for not playing him sooner. If Ledger never got a game and never became a player then he'd be bagged for lack of "development".

Development isn't just picking guys at AFL level and hoping they go OK. Sometimes there are lessons people need to learn.

Ledger looks ready-made to step up to senior level. He can find space, plays smart and his skills were good. Although not a full game, probably ahead of Ross for a midfield spot on today's performance.

I admit to last year when he wasn't getting selected suggesting it was his disposal letting him down but he isn't that bad this year. i think I might be responsible for that stigma that he has inherited. i'm impressed with him and eat my words. Well done Ledge keep it up.

Tom Curren had a good 1st game as sub and his second was a stinker

fortubetly for him, he had opportunity to persevere and bounced back

Ledger has next week as a potential make or break... that's just not good management

Who says Watter is good at player development?

How is that measured, WRT Watters being responsible for improvement or otherwise....

If Ledge has improved, it could be natural development, fitness, Simon McPhee, Dean Laidly, the 'academy' strength, practise
Who knows...

The senior coach is the one who provides opportunities.... He's had very few.

What supposed weaknesses??

Loved the way the two Toms(Ledger & Curren) got to contests and the didn't stop but ran to next and next. We have a couple of our young guys who need to to have that banged into their heads. I will accept the odd butchered kick but if you read all that was said on here you would have thought Ledger & Curren used toto butcher every touch they got at Sandy. Curren hasn't suggested so far that his disposal is any worse than a lot of others(not only Saints) and maybe Ledger won't either. But God don't we want guys who are willing to work their butt off to every contest. Our first draft pick this year should be the elite skilled mid to finish the grunt work of these guys.
