Rhys on the table
I'm over this. I'll be glad to see him offered up.
Completely useless tonight when we need height in the backline.
If I were coaching I'd have moved him to the ruck and make him earn his keep and thrown Macca back.
Stanley should hand his pay pay packet back this week.
On a side note, Bakes is on Facebook saying he reckons he'll get called up next week even though he has a broken leg.

Quite a few others should take the jumper off...

Re: Rhys on the table
I do wonder if we're getting the best out of him or is what we see all we can get ?chook23 wrote:Has been a terrible year by stanley........contributed by his use by the match committee

Are our coaching staff doing the best to get his best ?
I'd hate to see another club find the key and he became a player when we left it untapped.
However at this stage it's hard to see long term potential.
It's not in the backline for mine.

Re: Rhys on the table
He is CLEARLY not a frigging defender. His confidence has been shot. He should be stuck in the 2's until he learns how to get a kick on his own - but the coaching staff also have a lot to answer for!!
Other clubs may be fooled by elite speed, height, great leap, strongest player at our club...if he's got any currency then I'd f*** him off.

Stanley's not clearly anything. He's never done much as a forward or a ruckman either. He's occasionally spectacular and regularly underwhelming.savatage wrote:[Stanley] is CLEARLY not a frigging defender.

Re: Rhys on the table
I watched guys like Saunders and Webster of the younger brigade bust a gut, I know they made errors but at least they tried to insert themselves into the game. Rhys looked like he was trying to get out of the way all the time. I know he has all the physical attributes but to me the guy simply has no football nous and that cannot be taught. Would be happy to see him offered in trade period.

Re: Rhys on the table
Would be disgrace if we traded him. Every club would take him and he will be a long term senior player. Clearly not comfortable down back but not to many first year defnders would be playing in our back half with no support.

Does Podsiadly have leprosy ? He must have because Stanley didn't go within two metres of him tonight. Who ever is coaching this kid must be genius as he saved him from a life threatening disease by instructing to avoid all body contact!

Re: Rhys on the table
Stanley isnt a backmans a...hole.
I equate this to playing Glenn McGfath as an opening batsman for Australia!
All we are doing is killing this kids confidence to try and not get smashed in the back line
Whislt we all dont think his form is great, if we end up managing him badly he could end up like Tom Lynch going to another club and being a solid 30-40 goal a year forward
I going to be seriously pissed if Watters ends up compromising his development and utimately sees him leaving to go elsewhere

Re: Rhys on the table
He lost confidence when moved forward - I think he just needs sometime playing for Sandringham to get some confidence back. I doubt however he is ever going to be a dominant footballer no matter where he plays as he just doesn't like physical contact !One Eyed Saint wrote:Stanley isnt a backmans a...hole.

Re: Rhys on the table
I think he"s being played in the back line purely for his height and its not working,we just don"t have anyone else!

Did you not see his 'feeling' when he landed on Pod's back in the last quarter?WinnersOnly wrote:Does Podsiadly have leprosy ? He must have because Stanley didn't go within two metres of him tonight. Don't forget though, he did win an AFL sprint, some here think that is career enhancing..
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Yep, he can run and run. But he cant contest the ball. He cant provide a decent contest, cant get enough of it, and doesn't use it good enough. But he can run.bobmurray wrote:Has he been a good VFL footballer...clarky449 wrote:He just isint a good AFL footballer.

Re: Rhys on the table
We are almost at the completion of the season, and for my money, I would hold fire on offering Rhys up for trade this season. This season of pain has been waiting to happen in many ways. The reasons for this are many and varied but above all a lack of a decent recruitment /trading programme for the past 4-5 seasons has resulted in our current on field woes. I may be wrong but I believe that Pelchen and Watters have used this season to assess the list, next season will be another "transitional" one with new recruits taking the place of retirees. Rhys Stanley could well be a part of the future plans of SW and CP. I'm happy to give SW the respect to build the side the way HE wants to.
St Kilda forever ( God help me)
Re: Rhys on the table
In all seriousness though, what do people actually expect we'd get in return for the likes of a Stanley or a Siposs?
Is this 'perceived potential' everyone's banging on about purely just our twisted perception?
Who actually believes we'd get much better than the #75 we picked up Arryn with? Has he risen up the ranks with his showing thus far?
